Carter afb or quadrajet?
I'm in the middle of an engine swap going from a 305 to a mild built 350 and am unsure of what to do for a carb and intake. I have a carter afb carb and my buddy is giving me an edelbrock dual plane intake i'd like to use this set up but don't know how to hook up all the linkages for the throttle cable tv cable etc... i've never done a carb swap before. I suppose i could always use my stock intake and quadrajet to make things easier but i know i'd need a spread bore to square bore adapter. I was wondering if someone can direct in the way of some specific kits for the linkages i have 2 pictures the first one is the brackets on the qudrajet the second the carter. Thanks i'm very confused here

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
You might not need an adaptor for your quadrajet to the eddy intake.
Take a pic of the intake. You know your quad works and hooks up so I'd use it. That crusty looking AFB will need a rebuild kit. And your quad can be tewaked to work on the 350. |

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
i don't have a pic of the intake but it's a square bore and not both.. I know the afb will need a rebuild kit i'd actually like to use the quadrajet on the eddy intake if it has the same bolt holes for the bracket that holds all the throttle and kickdown cables.

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
Most intakes like that are made as replacement intakes. THey mimic the originals so everything bolts on.

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
No that won't work!
THat's a square bore carb to spread bore intake. You want a spreadbore carb to square bore intake. Just the opposite. Can you get the name off the intake? Is it a performer, performer rpm or something else. If it is a square bore you'll need an adaptor like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Edelbrock-26...#ht_2196wt_976 |

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
i don't have the intake here that's the whole problem my friend has it on a project car and hasn't went and got it yet all i know is it's an aluminum dual plane edelbrock intake. I think i'm probably just going to use my stock intake for now and do the swap later.. How much will this hurt performance running my stock intake? I've been reading up on those adapter plates and most people say they kill performance plus for the price of the one you posted i could rebuild my afb and probably about get the needed brackets.

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
You will never notice the difference in performance between the stock intake manifold and the aftermarket one.
Most of the performance gains with after market intakes is psychological.

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
unless you have some internal mods, cam, heads, bigger valves, headers and exhaust, the aftermarket intake is a no gain. and q jet for the win, afb's suck.

Re: Carter afb or quadrajet?
mine is to swap 2B to 4B,
i wanted it looking stock and was almost going to pull it off my other 79-350 block, then thought used, but gave up looking when i saw this as cheap. its going to be smooth and blue (stock carb)for my 79-305 till I swap it for my other 79-350 rebuilt, but looks stock block.
