Any knowledge about this rear end would be helpful.

I've had this truck since 2008 and use it as a work truck. I've had no trouble with the eaton rear end and it has been used hard. I hear they are hard to find parts for, but fortunately I have had zero trouble with mine.

The factoru overhaul manual contains complete rebuild instructions for both the Eaton single and two speed differentials.

I just took one apart. They are brutal. Iv'e had low mileage 14 bolts fall apart. If you keep oil in it, it will most likely last forever. The pinion bearing is huge.

Yes, the Eaton No Spin. Iv'e seen a a couple on Ebay, kinda pricey. Real simple set up though.

The 14-bolt posi and locker differentials fit into the HO52 & HO72 carriers so you can pick one up pretty easily used that will work in your existing rear end.

Be careful, that drop out pumpkin weighs a lot. Much more than the 9" pumpkins I have pulled many times. Probably 100 pounds+. Better off pulling the tin cover off the back of the axle housing and just removing the carrier & ring gear assembly leaving the drop out pumpkin & pinion gear in place.

This is true. Except note that you have to use the 14 bolt axle shafts since the spline count is different.

I have an Eaton with around 400K on the clock. It isn't noisy. I keep the oil changed in it I want to say I put in LT7 or JL7?? brand oil....It is what my uncle used for the semi's he drove. It has been loaded down heavy, driven fast and pulled TONS. Now the bad news...The breaks are so so on it because the parts are pricey. Look HERE for some additional information on the Eatons.

My 68 C20 has the Eaton HO72 in it with 437,000 miles on it. Still going strong.

The guys on Pirate 4x4 are wild about them. They're tough units, so much so that even those maniacs over there don't bust them.

Heck, there's guys over there converting them to front axles. Think about the logistics of that swap, cutting the axle tubes off and splicing on tubes with steering knuckles, then figuring out the bearings, seals, and drive shafts for each side.

I had a complete rebuild on mine a few years ago. New locker and axles. The shop upgraded the axles to fit the locker. So, they can be rebuilt.
