SM465 Hydraulic Clutch Swap

I have an idea to make a slave cylinder bracket similar to the ones from novak adapt. My question is could I use a clutch fork from a gm hydraulic bellhousing on a non hydraulic bellhousing? Also would I need a clutch return spring?

Re: SM465 Hydraulic Clutch Swap

Much cheaper and easier to just buy the advance Adapters bracket. It bolts directly on to a non hydraulic bell housing and uses a factory 85 and up slave cylinder. It also uses the old style clutch arm like you have.

With the AA bracket its just a matter of removing your old mechanical linkage and bolting the newer type on.

I got the bracket from Summit and the slave cylinder from Rockauto. I like it better than the kit you pictured because it uses a factory GM slave cylinder that you can get at any parts store for cheap.

thanks, that helps a lot as I never considered it an option. Do you have any pics of it with the slave cylinder and clutch fork installed?

Sorry brother, I don't. I have all the parts mocked up and ready to go on my shop floor, but I haven't had the energy and time to pull that heavy thing out and swap the bell housings.

Re: SM465 Hydraulic Clutch Swap

My truck is a factory hydraulic clutch truck. But my bell housing has a big ugly crack in it. I couldn't find a replacement factory hydraulic bell housing that didnt cause me to have to hock the farm to pay for. So member Dirty Larry on here turned me on to the AA bracket. It allows me to use a mechanical bell housing that was given to me for free and still keep my factory hydraulic clutch stuff.

The rock crawler guys have driven the price of hydraulic bell housings into the stratosphere. They like to swap engine and use that bullet proof SM465 transmission in their trucks. But they are doing conversions so a clutch linkage is a pain to fabricate. Hence there is a big demand for factory SM465 hydraulic bell housings and companies like Novak and Advance Adapters have started selling brackets to allow more possibilities at a lower price.
