Disabling Column Shifter

Hi Guys,

Been a Member for a few months and working on my 64, quick question for the respectable knowledge guys out here. i am converting from column to floor shifter and i just realized, can i just disable and remove the column shifter and retain my steering column instead of having to buy a new column. Already got the Ididit one but i sure can return it. Any thoughts and is this ok and doable?

Thanks a bunch
