Re: frame mount brake booster???
seeing as you just joined; you should read some of the build threads on this site.

Re: frame mount brake booster???
I'm going to bring this thread back up instead of creating a new thread for the same ?
I have came across a new frame mount power brake set up minus the booster for cheap (like me). Most all the builds I've seen every one orders a complete kit in a box. Is there an off the shelf booster and/or M/C -donor replacement that works for the frame mount kit? I've got the donor Camaro firewall brake set up and pedal, I'd like to keep the firewall clean after filling in all the holes and shaving the lip on my clipped 58 . |

Re: frame mount brake booster???
I used the 74 MC and prop valve from the donor truck, an after market 8" booster and fabbed the brackets myself. That allowed me to move it further back on the frame so the access door was behind the cab brace and radius the bracket to match the booster for better look (yeah I know no one will see it but it mattered to me). I also tucked it closed to the frame for more clearance at the transfer/trans. I used the stock pedal. In the photos the tubing coils are vertical, I ended up rotating them horizontal because they will not bleed coiled vertically. Details are in my build thread towards the start.

Re: frame mount brake booster???
Thanks OrrieG, Do you know what a good donor for the booster would be ?
I was trying to find a booster from a newer vehicle to use from a wreaking yard I've seen someone had used a MustangII booster before but not sure on the year, but not very many of those around. Just not sure if a ford booster will work on a chevy M/C. The bracket assembly I was looking at is from speedway: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-1...edal,9343.html Just trying to find out what booster and M/C would work with it that I could find easily when I need to replace them . I'm not quite there to the point of running the brake lines yet, just trying to gather the parts, but its not far down on my list. |

Re: frame mount brake booster???
I think I got it from POL or CPP. It is a standard hot rod 8" for use with a GM master cylinder. Use an old MC like for mock up. It was one of the first things I did and two died from sitting and not getting the seals exercised (started leaking and would not seal back up) Now at least two times a week I go out and pump the pedal a dozen times.

Re: frame mount brake booster???
58Warrior could you use the stock brake arm with that setup? Has anyone else used the speedway bracket? Also i think some of the newer vettes use a 7 or 8 inch master and booster

Re: frame mount brake booster???
apache200
I don't know if I can use my stock arm with it, It comes with a new arm so that is what I'd use if I can. Blue57 I'm aware of the brake" kit in a box" kits available not looking to charge up the card ,and want to be able to get replacement parts local,.. I thought I mentioned I'm cheap ![]() I like the remote reservoir too, I saw Ogre's build where he added it. OrrieG I'll search the bone yards to see what can find when the weather permits, may have to adapt and fab something up also. Last edited by 1958Warrior; 12-05-2013 at 11:54 PM. |

Re: frame mount brake booster???
I used the 55-59 version, as I have a '57, but check this one out.
I like mine just fine, especially for the money.
