bed mount question

I have a question about the position of the bed mounts on my '66 short bed. The PO has welded the bed to the frame and I got to looking around more as to why he did that and the bed mounts at the very back of the bed are wider than the frame. It is still a trailing arm frame and measurements on my frame are the same as my '64 long bed so I don't think the frame has been swapped out. Just wondered why the mounts on my short bed are wider than the frame. Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: bed mount question

Masybe some pics would help. The rear mount is the frame itself and the next set forward is wider. Not sure how much but the holes in the cross brace will line up. Are the braces welded to the frame? If so you could take the wood out and use a grinder to cut the welds and save the braces.

Re: bed mount question

I will try and get some pics this evening and get them on here. I know it is a silly question I have had several of these 60-66 trucks and this is the first time I have came across this

Re: bed mount question

the bed and/or cross members are from a 60-62 probably. those are about 4" wider than the 63-66 frames

Re: bed mount question

Mine are the same way. May have to cut off and move inward. Is everything else the same ?

Re: bed mount question

firemanjimfd mine is identical to that. I had the same thought as Clyde65 on it being a 60-62 but couldn't find anything to prove that thought. Ya I am just going to drill out the spot welds and move them in to where I need. The cross braces are not lined up either but I have a donor truck that I am going to get those off of. Kinda crappy that the PO welded the cross braces to the frame. Thank you guys for the help

Re: bed mount question

Yep, that is a '60-'62 bed. The '60-'62 frames are wider than the '63-'87 frames.
