Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

It's on a cabover(?) and looks to be anodized aluminum. It has "CHEVROLET" stamped in the top rail, like a C10-30 grill, but no mesh in the center, like a C60-80 grill. C60-80 grills didn't have "CHEVROLET" stamped in the top rail. I want one for my '66 and could make one by cutting the mesh out of a Deluxe grill, but I don't want to cut up an original deluxe grill.

Yeah, saw one on a 66 chevy C-50. Think is was the 20 foot flatbed or something other, But had the same or very similar grill if I remember right.

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

I normally see the painted versions though, the anodized one would be a nice find. Heres another big truck grill sometimes seen

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

The C60-80s are different, they don't have"Chevrolet" stamped in the top bar. They have the letters that mount above the top bar. That cab over grill is stamped.

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

I have the stamped cab over grill on my c10 without the center bowtie. Love it.

Thanks. The truck is getting stock rims/ skinny tires and dog dish caps in the near future. Just need to get the rims blasted and painted up.

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

I think that one on the red truck is chrome plated, the finish does not look dull like all the aluminum ones look after 40 years....

so you are looking for a cabover fire truck, pretty much all fire trucks seem to have chrome ....

looks like gm tooled up 1 more grille for the cab overs, since there wasn't room on the top for the exterior "Chevrolet" letters like the big trucks have.
that red one was on ebay years back in new jersey, they were using it as a yard truck, it was an ex fire trick, had a 409, top speed 45 mph (they said), and sold for 2500$... whish I could have got it!, no money, and didn't have a week to drive it back cross country

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

It looks anodized to me, not quite clear enough reflections and color to be chrome. I think a fire truck that was kept inside all those years would still have a great looking aluminum grill. There was recently a local '69 Ford fire truck sold, and a neighbor of mine bought it- the anodized trim still looks new.

The original grill for my '66 is in great shape; I'd rather have it than a NOS since the later replacement grills all had scratches right out of the box.

This was before I lightly polished it, the slight milky look is gone.

They didn't chrome any of the other factory Chevy grills (only GMC that I'm aware of), so it would seem more logical that they'd be aluminum, using the same dies as the deluxe grills and just trimmed the mesh out. Could be wrong about them being aluminum though.

I love the pic of the yellow and white tractor there. I remember playing with Nylint toy trucks in the late 70s and i had one of those cabover toys. Sweet!

Re: Anyone Ever Seen This Factory Grill?

I think the missing mesh looks good. I was going to trim the mesh from one of my steel ones and find a blue bow tie from another newer year truck, to put in between.
