Trans Question

I have a 700r4 I believe out of a 1992 or1992 chevy pickup. I have heard that since it has the kickdown cable it will work on my 64 with out haveing a computer to run it. If that is the case there is a electrical connection on the tail shaft housing that goes to some module. Will this trans still work on my truck and what do I need to make it work. Any Help will be great Thanks.

Re: Trans Question

The connection might just be a low fluid sensor or something like that. The 700r4 doesn't have a computer. The TV cable takes a special mount on the carb. Check youtube for videos on how to hook it up.

Re: Trans Question

I think the earlier 700r4's are the ones you want with out the computer.

Re: Trans Question

The connection is for pwr and ground. Inside the trans pan there are some electrical components. I put the bowtie converter lockup kit in mine so that when I reached 4th gear my rmps would drop as a normal OD trans does, thus I had to add power and ground.
Don't worry about it too much. If you want the rmp drop then get the bowtie kit. It comes with everything you need and instructions on installing components.
Oh, @ 40mph I hit 4th with OD locked, rmps drop to 22!

Re: Trans Question

The 700R4's do not have a kickdown cable. It is a TV (throttle Valve) cable. It is absolutely critical that that cable is properly connected to the carburator and adjusted to produce proper pressueres inside the trans. If it is not, the trans will burn up in a short time. There is also a square electrical connection for the torque converter lockup. That is also important to be connected and operating correctly. The electrical connection on the tailshaft would be for the speedometer.

I agree with either calling Bowtie overdrives, or going to their website.
