What year?

I hauled this out of my neighbors woods, I think it's 83, he couldn't remember, I know the plow is older than me, cause he remembered the year he bought that.

She's very rusty, tranny was new just prior to parking it. Not sure what I'll do with it.

Re: What year?

Take a look at the last 8 characters in the VIN.

It will have the model year code, the plant code, and then the sequential serial number portion.

If it's an 83 it would be:

DF523456

D = 1983
F = Flint Assembly plant
5xxxxx = serial number, starting at 500001 for GMC.

Grille and 2 tone separation agrees with 83 or 84.

Re: What year?

If it would run, I'd put it to work for a few winters and make some money with it clearing snow. Problem is, usually vehicles are parked for a reason and the reason usually isn't easy/cheap reasons. Therefore you'll probably end up parting it out.

Re: What year?

He is an older guy, he started using a snowblower on his driveway, as its only 60ft long. He used to drive it all the time, retired, got a nice little car, and just parked it. Used it a couple winters, it just became more work then he wanted to deal with. So it sat outback since 05. He said it will run, just the fuel lines are rusted away. I'm going to use some of the interior parts for my dads 87 k5. The rest will probably go to scrap.

Re: What year?

The grille is either 83 or 84. Here's a quick way to tell: are the wiper controls on the dash or on the column? 83 had them on the dash and 84 had them on the column. That's where the transition was.

Re: What year?

If it was a truck I would say 1984. The two tone in the center seemed to be more 84 than 83. The majority of 83's had the two tone below the belt line molding and on the roof. In 84 the trucks went to the two tone in the center like the one above. The grille is 83-84 only .

Re: What year?

Frank - the ZY5 two tone paint scheme (as in the original post) was available starting in '81 and through '87, so the availability of the paint scheme would not be a way to discriminate.

Re: What year?

That is an '83/'84 grille and headlamp trim, I see an impact strip on the bumper, not sure when that became available.

Also, '83 wiper control above light switch; '84 wiper control on column.

Re: What year?

Detach the plow. Sell it on Craigslist and use the money to freshen up the motor. Fuel lines, oil, filters and plugs. Looks like it's fairly straight.

All the panels are shot, it would cost a fortune to make it roadable

Re: What year?

If you decide to part it out, those grilles are actually fairly hard to find. My truck was an 83 GMC and I looked for 3 years for an OE one without any luck. They're like $300 in LMC. Certain GMC stuff can be hard to find.

Re: What year?

Um, why not just look on the door sticker or under hood sticker or the glove box sticker to find the year?

Wasn't in the glovebox, the tag in the door was covered, but I cleaned it up and that's where i found the 8/84. I didn't realize it was there.

By way of confirmation it should have an "E" in the VIN, then:

EF523456

E = 1984
F = Flint Assembly plant
5xxxxx = serial number, starting at 500001 for GMC.
