AC compressor bracket help

As you can see, I have a BBC with a long water pump. I've got an AC compressor that I would like to mount on the driver side and all sorts of brackets but nothing that I can tell to mount it. Can anybody let me know what I may be able to buy to mount the compressor to the drivers side? I've seen a few pics of El Caminos of this era that sort of look like what I've got going.

Also, the engine came out of a 1969 C30 that I actually pulled out of that truck 25 years ago. Some of the brackets and pulleys I have shown may have been from that truck but it's been many moons and I don't know for sure what I have there. I am pretty sure it was a short water pump engine at the time. When I installed this in my K20 10 years or so ago, I had been working on cars a lot more and I my dad had an old shed full of stuff so I just cobbled it together to make it work.

Finally, if anybody has any pictures of what the brackets, pulleys, water pump, AC, alternator, power steering pump, etc were on a stock 396 or 402 powered truck, please let me know. I've seen many pictures but not enough detail to make heads or tails on how they compare to mine.

Thanks!

Wink Re: AC compressor bracket help

I've never ran AC on the drivers side so not much help. Some suggestions though.
Power steering line and resovoir need to go to fender on drivers side to get any kind of AC hooked up I would think. Your belt want mate up with it where it is now.
The pictures of brackets show mostly small block stuff.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

I agree, you should move the power steering reservoir to the drivers side fender. As for brackets, if you're willing to go to a Sanden style compressor for the drivers side, or switch the alternator to the drivers side and swap over to a Pass. side compressor (original compressor brackets required), check this out. I have the low profile version on my '72 for pass side compressor, excellent brackets.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

from your pics, you have most of the brackets to put the stock PS and alt in the correct spot. Then find the 9 piece AC brackets on the parts board. You might have to change water pumps though.

So I think the yellow arrow is the passengers side AC mount that goes on the intake manifold. The blue one looks like an AC bracket I've seen in El Camino big block AC drivers side pics.

Second pic. Yellow and green arrows, I may have. Red arrow I don't have for sure.

Anyways the second pic is very close to what I have except for the AC. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: AC compressor bracket help

Thanks for all the help. A short water pump might be better because the front most crank pulley is very close to the frame. Pics of a complete stock setup would be awesome if anybody has any thank you.

I like that Alan grove website and have some possibilities there.

Thanks again and any more comments or advice would be great.

Wink Re: AC compressor bracket help

Here are a couple of pictures less the factory compressor mounts and compressor. I swapped it out with a sanderson. This is a short water pump on a 305 with all stock 71 brackets except for the compressor. The stock brackets worked I just liked the sanderson compressor better

Re: AC compressor bracket help

Did the sanderson compressor come with brackets? It seems from earlier posts that I might already have the brackets to move the alternator to the drivers side, change the power steering bracket to stock and then would be able to mount the compressor on the passenger side assuming I went with a short water pump. Thanks!

Re: AC compressor bracket help

I pulled a donor 454 out of an 85 Suburban for my 71 C10 build that has left side A/C and P/S with a long water pump. I'm in the middle of cleaning & detailing all the brackets currently and the only pics I have are on my phone. I'll try to get some pics posted shortly if I can get them onto my computer.

That would be awesome if you could post those pics even if they are not all that clear.

Great help there and I appreciate it. Pretty sure I just need the bracket that you show that is bolted to the head. Does it have a part number?

Re: AC compressor bracket help

Here is the stock set up. The upper alternator bracket in my pic is a 1972 only so it is different than the 68-71 you have.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

I'll take some better pictures of the AC compressor to see if they match up with anything in this stock configuration. I know I have the one on the intake manifold. Thanks again and any other pics of the AC brackets would be much appreciated. Starting to make sense anyways.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

So the AC compressor I have is not going to work on this no matter what at least bracket wise from what I can see. I think right now the engine brackets and pulleys are close to a Chevelle, Nova, Camaro, El Camino, etc. I also think I might have most of the brackets and pulleys to put this engine back to stock which is fine but it's giving me a headache. Too many options from that era and too many truck/car BB SB parts that I have. Big puzzle. Thinking about selling what I have for brackets and pulleys and getting a serpentine setup with all the working parts, brackets, and pulleys so I can call it a day. If anybody has any thoughts please let me know. This truck is not all that stock and I am not concerned about making it look like a hotrod under the hood whatever that means. It would be cool to make it look stock but I feel like I'm on a scavenger hunt here with ebay guys and what not.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

The stock setup has a total of 9 AC brackets for the compressor. I would assume the other setup has about the same # of total brackets but I am not positive.

Re: AC compressor bracket help

*****in! One guy on the parts board has three more that I need. Then there are only two left and I have pictures of them! And I think I should be able to use the power steering pump shown and get rid of that funky hydroboost pump.
