Info Needed - 55-59 Hydramatics
Looking for anyone that has a 1.5 ton or bigger chevy truck w/a hydramatic in it. Specifically i'm interested in the prefix on the Hydramatic. I'm trying to locate what my HM is out of as it is a "CHT" which isn't listed in any of the books nor do any of HM restorers know what it is from. Any info is greatly appreciated. Mine is a 4spd with a standard case.

It may well be from a Lincoln, Packard, Chevy, GMC, Rambler or a few others. It was used in many cars and trucks when it first came out. Post a picture and the full ID number

Re: Info Needed - 55-59 Hydramatics
I'm pretty confident it's a chevy unit, it has the chevy v8 bellhousing/starter/torus (small torus and 18 bolts). The 1/2-1 tons used either a ch or chc prefix, just nothing listed for the 1.5 and bigger. The 4 bolt flange leads me to believe it is the parking brake assy for a bigger truck. I have found reference to the black tag being the 1.5-2 ton unit, but it refers to the side tag (oval shaped one) that isn't present on this housing, nor is there the casting for it.

For reference, here is the Paul Marsh HM manual reference data, omitting the Chevy +1.5 ton info

Re: Info Needed - 55-59 Hydramatics
I have sw gene and several other shops that specialize in the HM and none of them know anything about the cht code. Unfortunately that is why I am looking for someone that has a 55-59 1.5 ton or bigger hydramatic to confirm what code there trans has. I've been on stovebolt and oldgmctrucks with no luck. I have found one other cht-55, but it was in a 54 1/2 ton and the gentleman is as perplexed as I am. His was converted to a torque tube but he has no idea where the previous owner got it from.
