s10 frame swap/engine choice

Okay I have a few questions and need some advice. I got my s10 frame etc for swapping my 53 on. I first wanted to keep the truck more nostalgic for its time etc. And put in a 292 chevy inline 6, but a couple things crossed my mind. I want AC in the truck and I want to make some very long road trips with it as well. That being said I need reliability and a decent amount of power. I also want to keep in mind fuel consumption.

What I'd like to do is get some opinions on different swaps etc. I know that 350 is the go to engine with an auto behind it. Can you guys help me make a deffinate choice. I know a man that has a 292 chevy with all accessories and running for 300 bucks. I personally have a sb350 from my old chevelle that needs to be rebuilt. what would you guys do?
