? s on dying dash n door panels and interior interchange
I have an 86 I also have a 78 interior on the shelf. I have a tan dash pad door panels map pockets and lower door carpet all tan all 78. What's the best way to make it a black and is it quality?
Next My 86 is pl/pw if I take the manual regulators and door handles from a 78 will that all bolt right into my 86 doors? Last I know the 78 dash pad doesn't have a provision for the vin tag and the dash bezel needs to be changed but will the 78 dash slide right in my 86 steel dash and fit properly? Thanks in advance! |

Sem makes the best rattle can paints, they also sell adhesion promoters, I bought mine at a local automotive paint supply store.

Re: ? s on dying dash n door panels and interior interchange
The '78 interior will fit in your '86. You will want to grab the door and window handles from the '78, as they are a bit different. They may function, but will look funny. The '78 door regulator will bolt right in your '86.
The dash pad will work, but the Bezel will not. The headlamp switch moved up when the wiper switch went to the column, and the bezel is too thick at the top to fit on the pad.

Re: ? s on dying dash n door panels and interior interchange
Thanks jeff and jon...a wealth of knowledge as usual. I was almost certain I could do the doors I've got this stuff for sale on the parts board but must be too high even though its all mint and includes shipping but maybe ill just use it. How goofy do you think the 78 door panels would look with an 86 dash?
How would I die the lower door panel carpet and map pockets? |

the older lock rods (78)use metal clips
newer use (87/89) plastic bits here I used my blue 78 pad with 87/89 panels and parts and pulls, in 78 doors now i use the 89 pad in there i think the 78 pad has a clip to remove to fit over the vin,and mine had no speaker holes

Re: ? s on dying dash n door panels and interior interchange
like TexasJeff said, SEM is quite good. i just did my crew door panels with it (tan to black), was pleased with the results.
map pockets would be a pain to dye. you'd have to un-staple the cardboard backing before dying. i just left mine off 'till i find some black ones |

Re: ? s on dying dash n door panels and interior interchange
I may try ebay. I wasn't gonna mess with the dash. The doors would have been easy but look sloppy with the newer dash. And I did do the swap to a 73-4 front clip. Did a 5/7 drop put it on steelies and tossed a t56 in doing my exhuast is the morning! Thanks for the advice 1774 you'd know. Remind me to talk to you about some 77 trim I came across. Thanks for all the input from everyone else. 1774 would you look at my for sale ad and pm me what you think fair market is on that stuff or maybe I could wholesale some of it to you or barter something.
