Can I move my column in about 4"? Is this possible? Are there ways to adjust the column w/o hacking it up?

Just did it to mine and unfortunately it didn't work for. Just collapsing an inch and a half made it to hard to get into the truck and there was barely enough room to lift my legs up to get on the clutch and brake pedal.

If you're not tall or have a smaller wheel / tilt column it would probably be just fine.

Unfortunately I'm Big belly dude, and tall! You only got a 1-1/2 inches might be ok. So what did you do drill out pins heat up and move it? Can you tell me exactly what you did to get it to move? I haven't really looked at the shaft other than i noticed the collapsable shaft. The other areas I haven't inspected yet. Something I want and need to do fore sure . Much appreciated your insight how you went about doing it. Thank you.

Sounds like PS and a smaller wheel is in the cards for you.
That and Mitsubichi seats helped my belly space a lot without losing leg room.In fact I could stay with the stock wheel.

I initially drilled out the little plastic pins. They didn't go all the way through both shafts like you would think. Just a 1/4 or less down on both sides of shaft. I tapped it a few times and it didn't move so I heated it up with my torch and it slid right up. I had also sprayed it with roil a few times the week before and my truck has never left AZ so not much rust.

Also I didn't leave it collapsed at that inch and a half. I moved it back to stock location. Wasn't going to work for me collapsed even an inch and a half.

All I did was loosen the bracket underneath the dash and the one just at the firewall was already broken so I just took it off. I didn't completely unbolt anything. For some it takes a lot more work, just depends on how much rust there is binding the shafts together.

what type of Mitsubishi seats? Out of what type of vehicle?

Got no idear.They were marked as Misubishi and came as $50 swap meet specials.The drivers is 6 way power and I built some brackets to fit.They have a 2X2 steel tube running across the back and the front has a 2X2 angle iron.I Bolted the pieces to the seats and marked the stock holes thru the floor and bolted them to the original mounts.They're comfy and work.They actually don't look too bad but I will be going to stock utility buckets when I can.

Belly room? Well I am just big boned and I am a normal weight for someone who is 9 ft 2 in tall. In truth I am 6ft 2in and tip in at between 375 and 380 depending on the week I've had. I fist noticed the wheel trouble on a truck I bought then tried to put a late model Silverado seat in it cause it was the big rage on this board at that time I got that truck several laying around the shop. Knowing that would not fit I bought tilt steering column for it and then I had another truck [truck#2] with buckets and the tilt helped but it was still close to me, so I moved it in towards the dash. That also shortens the tilting action of the tilt. It does work but my head touches the roof when I sit in my truck and the wheel needs to be tilted in an upward position some at least to be drivable. What did big people do in the 70's before they had the know how to change the stuff we do today?
