Where to put the speakers

Here is one for those who have done stereo speakers in their trucks. First off it is a 70 c10 longbed. I want to try to keep it as original looking as I can. With this in mind here is what I want to do. I have a original Chevy 8 track from this time period. It has the Chevy bow tie on it. It has a underdash shell with it and I don't mind to use 8 tracks. so I am not looking to change out to the newer am fm cd radios. I want to make a set of boxes for the speakers but I need a area to put them. I have some 5 1/2 or 6 inch speakers. I was thinking either of making boxes to go under the seat or make the boxes to fit just above the gas tank and behind the seat. Like I said I am not looking to make it really loud but I want to put them in where they will not be in the way. I also don't want to cut the trucks metal. I also do not want them where they will be in the way or be seen. Has anyone put them under the seat or behind the seat?

Why not under the dash? There is a vendor that's a member here that makes an awesome speaker mounting system if you move the gas tank

I want to keep it as original looking as I can, it was my father in laws truck so my wife would kill me if I was to move the tank. Will the speakers fit decent under the dash? I haven't really tried these to see if they would fit. That would be perfect for me if they did. He had put some really small ones under there, maybe 3 to 4 inches wide. I was wondering what other folks did to give myself ideas. I can fab up a piece to hold them. On one old truck I have a lot of folks pull the panel off and put them in the door but I don't want to go that route.

I just went out there. Curiosity got the best of me. I took one of the speakers and looked under the dash on both sides. I saw how I can mount one on each side under the dash. Thanks for the suggestion. It had a lot more space under there than I thought it would have.

i have mine under the seat and it works well,original am still works with the centre dash speaker to.

I have seen them in the corners of the cab behind the seats. I have the kick panel style in mine i like how stock they look the sound good and go down near kick panel air vents.Only other word of advice is if you go under the seat dont point them straight up point them out towards the front of the cab otherwise sound will be muffled.hope that helps

Take a look at the Pioneer TSX speakers. Typically a three way, enclosed speaker that you can mount under the dash.

Pioneer speakers prob. from the late 80's - under bench seat, just sit on floor, facing forward.

In addition to the kick panel speakers I installed in my truck, I purchased some 8" subwoofer speakers from LMC and mounted them upside down suspended under my bucket seats. If you mount a speaker to the floor under the driver's bucket seat it will interfere with the seat adjustment.

They sound OK, much better than the kick panel speakers alone.

And you can believe me because I never lie and I'm always right.

I mounted two speakers to a board, used some of the original speaker bracketthen mounted back up in place.
