Re: transmission fit 47 gmc
If it is an original GMC that no one has swapped engines in it should have a 228, 248 or 270 in it rather than a 216.
At any case outside of converting to an open drive rear axle (55,56 and 57 fit easily but don't have great highway gears) the only thing I can think of that might cause an issue is the bolt pattern where the trans bolts to the bellhousing. you may have to change to an early 50's bellhousing to get the bolt pattern that matches the later truck transmissions. Somewhere in the late 40's early 50's the smaller Chevy trucks still used the smaller "older" bolt pattern and changed to the more spread out bolt pattern. As far as transmissions I'd look for a late 60's/70's full syncro four speed. They shift a lot smoother than the older ones.

Is the old trans any good yet? I might be interested if you still have it.
