Project slow-verhaulin'
Hello All,
I've received a lot of help on this site and so I am going to start my own build page. I bought this '66 3/4 ton stepside from a friend as an unfinished project. My plans are to make it my daily driver... The first picture is in my friend's garage, the second is on the way home to my house. |

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
This truck hasn't been tagged/inspected since 2003. My friend rebuilt the engine, the drum brakes, painted the chassis, and started on some of the body work. I plan on keeping the V6, and the four speed, at least for now. My immediate plans are to replace some rockers, floor pans, etc., replace the wiring harness, paint it, and get it on the road!

Sweet truck! Welcome to the forum, I look forward to your progress.
I have a 64 with the 305E V6 and SM-420....what a beast!

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
Cool truck! It even has a side mount spare!!! AWESOME! LOL! Yeah, mount a holley 500 two barrel and an HEI on that V6 and it'll really wake it up!

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
Well, I was stripping the paint off of the hood and kept noticing more and more rust around the valance. So I decided just to remove it...
Pretty beat up and chewed up so I think I will replace it. |

One more picture. Pay no attention to the bulge at the bottom of the screen. Something wrong with the camera, I suppose.

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
I bought a new valance. It fit pretty good. I decided to attach it with a panel adhesive. It would have been hard for me to weld it in due to limited access (and limited skill). The panel adhesive seems to have worked well. You have one hour of working time before the adhesive sets up. Get lots of clamps and a helper to get it in place.

Is it just me or did you replace your GMC valance with a chevy one?

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
GMC hood valance hasn't been repoped yet that I know off, so was probably his only option.

Well I didn't know there was a difference. Sorry to expose my ignorance. What is the difference?

You guys are right. I found this online.. the openings are a little more angular. Too bad, I like that GMC valance.

Re: Project slow-verhaulin'
Did you get your fender straightened out, you might need to lower your inner fender where it mounts to firewall. Looks like it needs to drop down lower for fender to line up..
