horn question

so i got my new column in the mail yesterday, i pulled the old one out yesterday and put the new one in today, my old column was jacked up from a couple perspectives, first the brights didn't work cause the switch was messed up (i had no idea how to fix it), i had a grant steering wheel on it, but when i bought the adapter kit the parts dip Sh*) gave me the wrong one, so i had a lot of slop in the wheel, and finally the previous owner rigged the horns up to a button which is fine but thats not how i do business, there is no wires going to the horns now, my question is when i goto run the wires where do i run them to? is there a certain color wire i need to be looking for? or where do i need to run them if not? i got the truck in the the garage right now waiting for replies...its a 84 k10

I don't think he listed a wiring diagram for 84 but 83 & 85 are listed and should be pretty much the same for the horn wiring.

The "harmonica" connector for the turn signal switch on the steering column should contain a black wire that runs up inside the column and connects to the horn button. After it leaves the connector, the other end of that black black wire should be connected directly to the horn relay's coil terminal.

The horn relay's contact terminal should be connected to a dark green wire that runs out through the bulkhead connector on the firewall, follows the headlight wiring out to the grille area, and plugs directly into the horn(s). The horn(s) are grounded through their mounting bolts.

Finally, the horn relay's common terminal should be connected to an orange wire that comes from the fuse box and is powered through the "HORN" fuse. This supplies power to the horn relay all the time. When the horn button is pushed, it grounds the black wire to complete the circuit and activate the relay. When activated, the relay's contacts close and feed power on to the horn(s) through the dark green wire.

awesome man, thanks a ton!!!! everything in the fuse area is there, i think the horn relay has a hole burnt through which is why i think they unhooked the horn in the first place, I'm going to run to the junkyard and try and find the relay...i needed to know where to look in the engine bay....i really can't thank you enough!!!

The horn relay on these trucks is located under the dash, not in the engine bay. If I remember correctly, it should be just above the fuse box ... the relay's socket is often taped or wire tied to the large bundle of wires coming out of the top of the fuse box.

GM and Chrysler used this same 3-terminal horn relay in lots of cars & trucks from the mid 70's, 80's, and into the 90's on some models. But if you can't find a good used one at the junkyard, most auto parts stores should have them ... Standard Motor Products HR151 or equivalent.

horn is working!!!! just had to find the wire and replaced the relay...one wire is bad and going to replace it...truck is almost back to new...minus paint and motor haha

went and got my truck inspected today, passed with flying colors, thanks for the help again!!!
