TwistMachine sells the paddle shifters:
http://twistmachine.com/?main_page=p...&products_id=6 I don't know of anyone doing the steering wheel controls. Painless used to have a horn button module that would let you control up to 4 things, but the don't sell it any more.

Re: aftermarket steering column/wheel with radio control and possible paddle shifts
Special ed, look up resistive multiplexing switches on google. Aftermarket radios integrated through a box to factory steering wheel controls. This multiplexing goes like this; radio sends a 8 volt + and ground from radio up to steering wheel, as an example. wheel controls have a set value of resistors behind each switch. example, touch volume up, a resistor is bridged across the 8 volt+ and ground to drop the 8 volt to say 6.3 volts. Radio is always looking at the 8 volt line and sees it drop to 6.3, so it's programming says volume up. car makers have been using the horn feed on some as a power source also, (who hits the horn and wants volume up at the same time). Cruise works the same way. This allows many functions to be placed at the wheel with the least feeds and it works great. Integration on 2 different systems as you want to do would be the biggest hurdle. If you need further info let me know, i have access to alldata, but a good radio shop is a good starting point. Good luck, Brian F.

Re: aftermarket steering column/wheel with radio control and possible paddle shifts
Hi Special Ed, i believe in some applications the bcm is the, should i say the central house, inputs come from steering column, analyze them and put it out to pcm. Data bus line will communicate to all computers on board. I think of the data bus line like a phone line. 2 wires of communication. As an example, tow/haul switch (the last time i looked it up) works with the bcm, the bcm sees the switch change, and sends the signal to the pcm to switch trans shift schedules (patterns). A long time ago as a subaru tech i fought a non working cruise issue. Horn circuit was used as a power source for the multiplexing cruise switches. It had 12 volts (+) available at the horn button but cruise was inop. Until i tried the horn and found that they sounded like an asthmatic mouse, then i realized the horns couldn't supply the amps needed to run cruise. (86 subaru xt coupe). Enough of my ramblings, but i was always intrigued by multiplexing switches. Good luck, Brian F.

Re: aftermarket steering column/wheel with radio control and possible paddle shifts
Also, I'm pretty sure the E38 ECM/TCM does not require the use of a BCM to allow the TUTD/paddle shifters to work.
EDIT: At least the 2010+ E38's.
