Re: Travel Mate truck camper

ran out of styrene, went to only model shop in town, closed for a few weeks while they move. drove 20 miles to the next town, their out of the siding i'm using. didn't want to go on hold for a month, so bought some diff. siding & am re-cutting all my pieces. it's ok though, making some changes

Re: Travel Mate truck camper

thanks TexasJeff. just finishing up filling, sanding, & smoothing out, put on corner beads.
a board member from a diff site sold me a very cool "sleeper kit", it consists of a potra-potty, bathroom & kitchen sinks, fridge, roof vent, etc
http://public.fotki.com/lotso/resin-...tures-014.html
he also sold me extra roof vents (i have 3)
hopefully i'll have the ext. done & ready for when it gets here.

naw, i dont think so. you scratch build cause you enjoy it. i only do it when i cant find what i want, other than that, i'm lazy & would prefer to start with a body.

Re: Travel Mate truck camper

been kinda slow on this, waiting for parts, got a couple things done. changed the vent grilles, cut all the glass for the windows, cut a door handle off an old ford exploder body for the rear door (still needs to be finished sanded), put on the corner bead
Name: 152.jpg
Views: 997
Size: 30.6 KB

started making the jacks. yes there long, haven't cut them to length yet. still making the jacking mechanisms, & have to put the lower tubes in still

and the hardest part just made easy-graphics. bought some decal paper & bonder & printed my own. may be old hat for some people, but this is like rocket science to me. considering i only first turned a computer on 4 or 5 yrs ago, spent 2hrs trying to find PAINT & how to use it, i think they turned out not bad for a first ever attempt, didn't even screw up or waste decal paper (did sacrifice 'bout 10 sheets of reg. paper till i got what i wanted). my bird & sun graphics i will touch up the edges with green paint, they have no smooth curve lines, computer block edges

cool thing is now i can print HiJacker decals for my jacks, a Dometic sticker for the fridge-even magazines for the book rack
thanks for looking!

Re: Travel Mate truck camper

a few updates.
made a table, a mattress & pillows for the OH bed out of some 1/8 floor underlay, screen door, patio light , etc. still have to add camper plug, plates for the tie-downs, door grab bar, & some marker lights.
once the OH is done, the interior is pretty much at a standstill till parts get here

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

That's a dang fine job you've done. You need to come over to scalerc4x4. They have a section on models and mini RC's

As for the last part, thank you for the laugh, I needed that

You sure have some fantastic modeling skills. What an great job! I don't like to tell people what to do,but if I may,I'd like to suggest once this model is done you build a life-size real working truck just like it!

Re: Travel Mate truck camper

one thing to decide-with the int. lights & vents glued to the roof & multiple coats of white & aluminum paint, the roof panels have picked up a slight bow.
if i glue them down, they sit nice & flat. i think i'm going to try straiten them, i like the accessibility. also printed up a chev 454 decal for the tailgate, & 454 emblems for the hood
i have some "chain", might make tie-downs if i can make it so they come undone, don't want the camper permanently tied to the crew

printed up my trailer graphics, took a pic of our real one & just kept reducing it.
have to fix a blunder, no safety chain hook-up on the crew hitch. also need to wire a plug in it. also have to decide wether to glue the trailer sides down. right now their removable, but have gaps, if i glue them, they tighten & square right up. got the ramps made too.

our cartop boat is next. the quads are a major stumbling block. right now i'm thinking about making my own atv body's & putting them on Hot Wheel atv chassis's.
