electric choke question

I have a 86 chevy k10 with a quadrajet. the blue wire that connects to the electric choke do it suppose to have power when the ignition is on or how does that work?

With the key in the run position you should have 12v to the wire.

It is also wired through an oil pressure switch so the choke only receives power when the engine is actually running ... not just with the key on.

There is a pink wire with a white stripe that is powered from the "CHOKE" fuse. That wire should be live whenever the key is on. It connects to one terminal on the oil pressure switch. The blue wire that feeds power on to the choke connects to the other terminal on the pressure switch. Note: this oil pressure switch is not the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge ... that's a separate part.
