Re: 56 headliner

The way I see it, there are three basic choices to make then it all comes down to design which comes down to personal taste.
1. You can cover the whole top of the cab to be more like what newer vehicles have or you can stay with the original footprint which in some cases might involve some weld and grind to dress up the sheetmetal you want to be seen.
2. You can use the rubber headliner thing that everyone sells to hold in the headliner you choose to fit the original footprint.
3. You(or your upholsterer) can drill holes in that body mold the headliner thing is supposed to fit in and use those magic clips to cover that part and make the headliner a more seamless part of the interior.

It's obvious which way I went. The headliner itself is simple in design but really complements the interior, I think. Could have gone more wild with bowties, flames, etc. but chose not to. By the way, I have a new one of those headliner thingies in white for sale cheap and I live in Tucson.

Magic clips? Speedbump, do you have a picture, part number or source for these?

Re: 56 headliner

In reality, I think it's a version of the wire spring clip that upholsters used to use before those plastic plug things took over. They use a smaller hole and are not as long so they will work in the small space between the inner skin and the roof. The idea was by the guy who did my upholstery. He took one look at the rubber seal thing I bought for the headliner and said, "we're NOT using that!"

Thanks, SpeedBump. That a GREAT idea. I was wondering how I was going to do this, and now I know!
