Disc brake kits?

I have a question about disc brake conversion....call me stupid but,....I have a 3/4 ton and noticed the all disc brake conversion kits go with a 6 lug caliper...will that make a difference?...I figure the truck has 8 lugs why would you want 6....?..

I found my 8 lug kit at Tuckers. They were about the most reasonable I found and their customer service is great. I did have a few problems with it. Wrong ball joints and tie rod ends but they made it good.

Do you mean 6-lug rotor?
Never heard of a 6-lug caliper.

www.performanceonline.com and www.earlyclassic.com both sell 8-lug disc brake conversions.

Much money to be saved by swapping factory disc brakes on there. GM did it right when they designed the brakes on their trucks, and the junkyards are jam packed with donor trucks in most area of the country.

I have been researching doing this exact thing. Would you swap either the entire front end or outside cross member parts on a 71-71 or 73+?

Been reading and get the impression 71-72 parts are a little more difficult to find.

I'd swap whatever came along cheap. But, all things being equal, I'd go for the newest year model possible in hope the parts were in better shape and replacement would be available longer. I haven't researched parts availability between 71,2 and 73-87 lately. If the early brake stuff is getting tough to find, go 73-87 for sure.

Old beat up 3/4 tons are everywhere for the picking here. I'd figure Utah would be similar.

3/4 ton trucks are a dime a dozen here. Get everything from a 73-87 at your nearest pick a part.
