Tilt Column Disassemble

I just bought a tilt column. Even though it's in pretty decent shape, I'd like to freshen it up a bit before it gets installed.
Anyone have an exploded view of the column that they wouldn't mind sharing?
Initially; I tried to start at the lower end to disassemble, but it appears it disassembles from the top down. Does it require a special puller to remove the component in the top?
Lastly; there is only one number on this unit (A1 343). My OE column has no part numbers stamped in it. It appears to be the same length, and the shafts are the same diameter, but the punched openings are slightly different.
Anyone know what the A1 343 may mean?

Unless it's messed up , I'd leave alone it not familiar with it . There is a puller to get tilt pins out yes . Lots of small parts too. I've had dozens of gm column apart. All basically the same back then. Sorry can't help with exploded view but did a quick search this might help. http://www.nastyz28.com/tech/e-tiltcol.html

Only puller required is for the steering wheel. A simple screw can be used for the collar pins. Done it several times. Do a search for threads on this, plenty on it. If the tilt part of the column isn't sloppy best to leave it together.

Here are the instructions i got from another thread. The hardest part was removing and installing the shift tube and lock plate, but other than that it was not to bad. I didn't need any special tools.

JJH Jimmy.........In the second photo in your post; is the bearing supposed to fit inside the adaptor?
How did you remove the bearing fron shaft? Must I remove the top pieces and bring the shaft out of the tube? I'm trying to be delicate because I'm concerned about distorting the tube, or worse yet, damaging the bearing and adaptor.
Are these parts available anywhere?

If you come up with a good way to get a new bearing into a new adapter let me know. I had all new parts and ended up breaking the plastic adapter trying to get them back together. I might have to try another vendor for the plastic bushing. I realize it is supposed to be tight but after I got the bearing in my bushing it was split a 1/8 inch.

You are sooooo right! I alamost had it on when I heard that sickening snap.
Yep; cracked open on the side opposite where I was working.
Turned around, walked in the house, and turned on the TV. After about 3 hours I'm thinking I'll look at it after I put it on the bearing. Since the tube actually holds it in, I may try JB Weld to seal the crack.
If you look in the last post from JJH Jimmy, he said he bought a new one at LMC. I looked, haven't seen it in their catalog yet.
BTW.....Going to try heat to swell the inner race on that pesky lower bearing so I can remove it and pack it or buy another. This thing ain't budging no way no how. Yeah right, we'll see how that works out.

That is a good idea on the JB weld, never thought of that. I think the tube does most of the holding as well but I cant stand having that crack in there.

Funny you mention that once it happened you went into the house and watched TV. I did the same thing, lol
