BBC vs SBC engine stands and mounts?

I was searching for some engine stands for the big block I plan to put in my truck over the winter and noticed some vendors only have the right side reproduction, and no listing for a left?
First question is, is the left and right the same stand?
Second question, what is the actual difference with the small block vs big block engine stands? I know in 73 and up, the same mounts worked for both small block and big block without any modifications...so I'm almost certain the small block mounts will at least bolt in and have the same angle? Is there another reason why the SMB stands won't work? Mine is 1971 with the pads, not clamshells.

Thanks

the big block stands are notched to clear the exhaust. left and right are different. i've seen a thread on here about it a few years back. you may be able to find a set of stands in the for sale section. they normally go for about $75-100 a pair.

You can set your big block down on small block stands just fine, but you'll not find an exhaust manifold or header that will clear them. The BB stands have a clearance built into them to allow the exhaust clearance.

The thread 68bowtie is talking about was likely started by me. I did one a few years ago showing the different mounts right next to each other and demonstrating why it wouldn't work to interchange.
