Windshield Gasket

Who makes the best reproduction gaskets for the Windshield & Rear Window, and who sells them?

Re: Windshield Gasket

Precision gaskets are very popular. I used them on mine and found them to be very high quality with good fit. The Steele products are good as well...

Re: Windshield Gasket

I used Precision with OEM 67-70 (seats deeper) trim. Fits great front and rear.

Re: Windshield Gasket

Is that the same Precision company who sells thru JC Witney for $59.95 ?

if it's the same company they sell a complete weatherstrip kit thru JC Witney for less than $200.00 with or without stainless trim . That's a great price !

Re: Windshield Gasket

Like others have said you want the Precision Brand and don't mess with the reproduction stainless trim, lots of fitment issues. Find a nice set of the original trim, watch the video shown above, use the precision seal and you will find it to be a simple install.

Whoooa, I was just about to buy repro stainless trim for my rear window.
Do you think all the repro window trim is bad across the board?
Anyone ever get a repp set of SS window trim that did work good?

Re: Windshield Gasket

Steele gaskets are manufactured by Precision but last I checked sold for a lot more. As Jeff says, DO NOT waste your time with repro SS windshield trim. I wasted A LOT of $$ and time figuring that out. Precision gasket + elbow grease on an OEM set of SS trim = success.

Precision does not manufacture parts for Steele rubber products .

Precision does supply JC Whitney which could be the lowest priced outlet for their products ?

Steele rubber was founded in 1954 and are located in Denver, NC and manufacture all their own products

Precision are located in Westin ,Wi and certified to sell glass related accessories in 2009 and sell from manufactures all over the world , information from their own website ... hardly a manufacture for Steele .

I've used Steele products for many years and have always been happy with the quality many times they are more expensive but as we have all come to find anything manufactured in the states costs more but to each their own ,I'll stick with the parts made here . JMHO

As I posted here at the time: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=484773 I was told by a female representative who answered their customer service line that Precision does indeed make their gaskets. I wanted a US made product for my K20 build so contacted Steele. Maybe they've since switched but as of two years ago they were not making these or maybe she lied or maybe you are wrong.

Re: Windshield Gasket

After reading about Pete's experience I used OEM 67-70 trim because it sets deeper in the gasket and actually "hooks" into the base and will not pop out. I installed the gasket and trim myself onto an OEM windshield and rear glass and dropped them off at the body shop. Their glass guy popped them in the truck by himself with no problems. The rear glass trim is the same from 68-72.

Re: Windshield Gasket

The repop rear trim is not bad, I have had good luck out of the precision brand rear but get 67-70 it because of the deeper lip is much easier to install, the front however is junk and does not fit well, used gm is your friend for this. Remember gasket and trim must match but to make life easy for your self get 67-70 for front and rear gaskets and trim and the glass man may not love you but will not cuss you like he will if you get 71-72 gasket and trim. Precision makes a good product, had problems with Steele, but after cracked windshield discovered a problem with window opening, so not their fault, do not use counterparts or any other brand aside from the first two as the rest are garbage.

Re: Windshield Gasket

To many times the installer blames the product-how about confirming that the window glass opening is correct before installing the seal and glass--------from the factory the pinch weld edge is uneven w/ twists--spot weld jagged edges. When installing new glass, it should be first test fitted to match the size and shape of the opening ( hard to put a square peg in a round hole ) lots of off shore glass has fit issues. I have seen installers try to put the trim in after the glass has been installed -good luck on that. With proper preparation and procedure I have found that most seal-glass-trim can be installed w/ good results
