74 carb compatibility with 71 350

So I got my carb from Guaranteed Carburetor today and it is listed for a 74 not a 71. It has an electric choke instead of a divorced choke and an electrical type connection on the top. Will this work for me or should I send it back? I kind of like the idea of the electric choke. Would I just have to run 12v switched to it? 71 gmc 350 with th350. Thanks!

Re: 74 carb compatibility with 71 350

The electric choke would be ok w/ 12v switched power. As far as the conn. I belive that's for a computer to control the power piston. As I remember you can leave this unplugged and it will still function. The computer limits it's usage. I'd say it's from a 84' instead of a 74'. I'm not sure I would want it if it's a computer controlled carb. though. Can you send it back? Jegs has Quadrajets.

You could call them and ask them about it.

Well customer service was certainly lacking, just short of rude. Apparently they went off my previously rebuilt carbs serial number that was off an 85 with the electrical removed and ignored my note that it was previously rebuilt and for a 71.

Get the right one. The one they sent you will run rich and be a tuning nightmare.

Re: 74 carb compatibility with 71 350

Ok customer service is taking care of me. They will rebuild my current carb for no additional charges. I wonder how many electronic carbs have been converted like mine. I'll send it in when I replace my intake manifold so I won't miss it.
