41' COE to be Car Hauler

A friend of my dads gave me this truck and currently I don't have it at the farm, but this summer I'll go get it. I just wanted to put it out there to get idea's on a final product. One person told me to get a fedex or UPS truck and use the frame and diesel engine, and then get another truck that has a rollback flatbed on it. I do have a running 235 to put in it when it comes home and see if i can't have some fun before i blow it apart. And Idea's would be greatly appreciated. This is a picture from this summer where it still sits.

Lots of possibilities there. First off, UPS doesn't sell their trucks, they scrap them. Who knows why, but....
One problem with a rollback, more than likely you would have to either shorten or lengthen the frame since rear axle position is critical on a rollback for it to operate properly.
What about building a Hodges style ramp truck?
This is a 54 that I looked about buying a while back. The PO built the ramp bed himself. If you have the room and welding skills it's actually not that hard to do. This one was on a IIRC a late 70's C-30 frame with 350:

I never knew that about ups, but that is interesting about building a ramp style rear end. I believe that i could accomplish that, i know we have the equipment. Also the frame, I really might as well use the frame and a lower geared rear end and a th400 or something of that nature. Thank, all this is just thinking about what I could do.

Re: 41' COE to be Car Hauler

Here's one of mine, a WWII gmc army truck- this one was 4x4 , I also got a cab off a WW2 deuce.5 coe. They are different than the Chevy/gmc cabs like the model 1581 cab one at the first post.
I make fenders, grills, dash panels for this style truck.

Got the truck dragged the 3 whole miles home today! At a max speed of 5 mph.. I just got it cleaned out and looked over, they are very cool from an engineering stand point. I just have a bunch of pictures, the last one is a size comparison to one of our modern grain trucks, big difference.
