How to get a title

I have a cab I bought from my brother and when he bought it he didn't get a title, bill of sale or any other paper work. I think it's a 1970 cab but is there a way i can get a title for it in texas? Thanks

Re: How to get a title

You can go to a title company and get a bonded title if he doesn't have one. If it is in his name you can just get a copy for about $15-$20

The bonded title process can get it. This is a link to the states page about it. http://www.dmv.state.tx.us/vehicles/titles/bonded.htm

Re: How to get a title

You can also go down to the tax office and have them pull the vin #it will give you the last owners name and address, then you can contact them to find the title or have them file for a lost title.(usually if you offer to pay they move quicker thru the process) but most ppl are willing to help. Also it may be a good idea to take the vin# to the police station an make sure its not coming up as stolen, my buddy went thru the whole process of trying to bond the title only to find it was stolen.

X2

I had a 62 mercury comet s22 i went through this with a few years ago. The thread was one here. You could probably find it by searching "62 mercury comet s22".

1. Call with vin to be sure not stolen

2. Try finding prefious owner and get the title from them/ lost title.

3. Bonded title is last resort. You will have to find a licensed car dealer to appraise the cae and they will want $$$ for this. Not sure if they will do so on an incomplete vehicle. Same goes for bond.
