I have a pair of 14" flex a lite fans on a hand built shroud. I just got a chance to wire them today , & went for a test run. 95 degrees today, & she runs 190 on temp while moving, with the fans off. While idling in traffic, I can switch the fans on & drop temp to 185, then switch them back off. Its on a manual switch(for temporary). the 2 fans pull 1340 cfm ea, & are a tight fit on the shroud. Airflow feels pretty even all over the radiator with the fans running. the difference in power is noticeable after loosing the big flex fan that was on the truck! I still need to set up a thermostat to kick the fans,& paint the shroud all pretty.......but I like this mod

i'd leave it with a switch, only because of the ability to turn them on whenever.

I need to shoot a roll of film on the longhorn.......still dont have any shots of the trans swap that was done early this yr

A lot has been going on around my place, with the odds & ends on the house to repair, & the kids ranger(a total ). Ins co finally paid on the truck, & we are building another Ranger. The ranger(92 this time) , is decent....but not as nice as that 89 that came from the south, so it will keep us busy for a while. I hope to have some pics later in the fall when things slow down a bit.......still dont have the door glass in the 69, but that will be at the top of the "to do " list for this winter. crazyL

It is entirely possible to wire it up so that a switch can override the thermostat...I'd have to sit down and work it out, but it wouldn't be too hard.

That is the way that I would want mine wired up. Just makes sense.

Yeah. A manual switch and a temp. operated switch. Anyone know a coolant switch that fits in the thermostat housing you can get at the junkyard? I'd want a 180 degree one but that would have to come off an old car. Also in hot climates down South many use a 2nd small fan wired into the AC to keep the condensor more efficient and from exploding in traffic.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want a manual switch when you have a therm. switch? Isn't the manual option kind of redundent when you have the automatic feature? I'm not trying to make anyone mad, I really just want to know the advantage. Also, if the fans don't kick on to take the temp low enough can you get a wide range of therm. switches? I might consider going with an electric fan in the future and just got curious about this topic. Thanks.

The manual override is nice so you can turn them on and leave them on if they're cycling a lot, or if you're sitting in the staging lane at the dragstrip and you want to cool your engine a bit more...then you shut them off for the pass to save load on the alternator.
