GMC front should be a DANA 44 with drum brakes, Rear should be a DANA 60

I think an Eaton would be more likely in the rear. I see Dana 60's behind big blocks.

Dana 44 one year only drum brake/open knuckle. Same as 71+ disc except for brake set-up...can be converted.
GMC K2500s came with Dana 60 rear.

Interesting. Was that a GMC thing? A quick look in the Chevrolet parts book, I only see Dana 60 axles in "C" body starting in 1971

Re: 1970 gmc 2500 4x4 axle type?
Yes,it was. My '72 K2500 has a Dana 60 and sitting here thinking about it I don't believe I've seen them any other way. Of course, until recent years I wasn't looking that hard at such details on these trucks. In my 1979 edition 46-72 Chevy 10-20-30 book most parts don't show C series at all. I see G-series and certain parts either say 4wd or K,when it makes a difference. I think the only plce I saw that was for Ser. 10. They show axle cover for Ser. 20 w/Dana and Ser. 10 4spd 396. Some GMC 1500s came with Dana 60s. Never realized till now it must just be the big block 4spds. No big block is specified in Ser. 20 which shows Dana rears came in other drivetrains, too. I had a '71 C/20 350/TH350 with a Dana 60 leaf rear.
