OT: Suburban Overdrive Question
Can someone tell me the first year that Chevy started putting the 700R4 Overdrive in the Suburbans.
Also. Did the 3/4 ton have the 700R4? Or some other tranny for the 3/4 ton overdrive? Thanks. Darren

The 700R4 was introduced in '83-'84, in that range...and I think it went across the board.
The 700R4 would've been the only OD for a truck of any kind until the 4L80E came out...

I dont think any overdrives went into 3/4 tons until 1992. That is the year the 4l80e came out.

1982 for the 700R4. 1991 was the first year of the 4L80E. Prior to '91, I think some light 3/4 tons got 700R4s, but REAL 3/4 tons still got a TH400 - no O/D.

Bear in mind that the early 700R4's caused a lot of trouble.
If it has had a recent rebuild by a reliable shop, then it may be alright as it should have been upgraded. My 86 Suburban had transmission problems twice in the time I had it. It was rebuilt but did not last and I think I did not get a very good rebuild.
