Chev 71 LWB Light Red Project
Hi guys,i bought this c10 1971 3 speed column shift with a 307 in it in october. The previous owner did some body work, paint the frame and re-did the brake but the truck was already in pretty good shape. He prime it and he completely stop to work on it for about 4 years. All the interior, bumper and grill was in boxes. So i offer him 2K and here i am.The plan is to rebuild the truck to is original color and lower it with a 5/7 static drop.

Re: work a lot on a 71 LWB this winter
So i tow it in the shop and start to work on it with one of my good friend who is a master in body work and paint. He also rebuild old gaz pump in hes free time. After a good look at it,it was quite a find for here in northem canada but obviously, the guys who did the job didnt have a clue of what he was doing. So after a few days of cutting, welding, grinding and body aligment,we finally apply the epoxy primer on it.Sorry i don't have any pics of the cab prime but i took some after we paint the top white.

Now its time to paint the back of the cab,the bed and the interior to be able to put it back on the frame and free some room for other project on the go.We also had to redo the dash were the radio goes to be able to fit a original radio i took from a 72 GMC park in my driveway.

Re: work a lot on a 71 LWB this winter
I steal 4 rims from my GM and sandblast them to be able to paint them in same time then my interior panels and the white lettering of the tailgate. To bad those rims are just 6 inch wide but its all i have for now.Yeah the tailgate....hahaha.Dont have picture right now of it but what a job it was to rebuilt it.I know i could just order one online but here, shipping fees are nuts.A new one, deliver home cost me around 650$ CAN.So thats why we rebuilt mine, and i like original parts to.I upload picture of the tail gate later.

Re: work a lot on a 71 LWB this winter
What size tires are on it in the pics? I think that size looks pretty good since you appear to be going for a stockish look. I think a 225/75/15 would be close to a stock size. And white letters always look good.
And keep in mind if you can't find a paintable rear bumper, a chrome one can be blasted and painted. Looks like you have a good body man there!

well right now, all the tire are different hahaha. I think your right for white lettering, its always a win. For the bumper, i guess i could order a chrome one and paint it. Never thought about this lol.

Re: work a lot on a 71 LWB this winter
Work a lot on my front fender sign, scratching all the old paint, polish them and i decide to paint the inside of the letter white.
I install front and rear marker and new bulb to,im lucky, all the original parts are still in good shape,if not i can always stole them from my 2 others GM. Time to put the cover on it and work on my front grill.Lot of work to do on it.Im wondering how it would look if i paint the plastic white?? I did lot of research and never saw one here. Now im working on the front bumper, its in bad shape to but it can be done, nothing impossible. My friend went to daytona see the nascar race and is suppose to stop at years one to pick a bumper for hes duster 72 and a few parts for me.Rear bumper, new floors mat and a paded dash. When i get this, sandblast both bumper and paint them white.Picture to come.... |
