SBC/BBC Z bar
I am new to these trucks, so if this has been covered a lot please excuse me. I have been reading here for over a year now, since I got my 69 C10.
Currently the truck has a 307 with a 3 speed. I pulled the 454 out of my Camaro since I thought it needed valve guides and possibly rings, but it turned out to be the intake manifold gasket sucking oil out of the valley, so I had some rebuilt heads I put on it and I want to put it in the truck now. I am going to a 6 speed, and want to keep the mechanical linkage in this vehicle. I am going to use a 621 bellhousing with the McLeod adapter plate and an extended pilot bushing. My question is, do I need to get a different Z bar for the BBC? I have no experience with manual clutch linkages, so I am not sure whether the Z bar for a BBC would be narrower between the pivots than with the SBC. All my other cars have had hydraulic clutches, so much easier and less parts... Thanks for any answers, I want to get as much mocked up in the LWB frame I have before I do anything to the truck. Re: SBC/BBC Z bar
Really, no one can tell me whether the Z bar for a BBC is the same as the SBC?

Re: SBC/BBC Z bar
Not same. You could only get 3 on tree or what I call granny 4 spd in truck.

Re: SBC/BBC Z bar
The Truck Shop carries V8 Z-Bars for the L6 and V8 SBC. No idea if the BBC takes a different Z-Bar. My '67 K/10 Suburban had a 454, but the PO put a TH350 behind it. The Sub was originally a 283/SM420 rig.
Try: www.TruckandCarShop.com V8 Z-Bar: p/n 67-12910 $39.00

Re: SBC/BBC Z bar
IIRC, the L6 Z-Bar is not as wide as the V8, since it uses a stand-off bracket on the engine, while the [4x4, at least] V8 uses a pivot stud that threads into the side of the block itself. I will take a tape measure outside and get actual measurements.
OK, here's the dope: V8 = 7'', L6 = 5-3/4''
