Kick panel speakers.

Are kick panel speakers any good. LMC sells them with Kenwood, or Pioneer speakers. Which speakers are the best, and do the panels fit nicely?

I have heard that you could lose your vents or at least do in the 66 chevelle application. Not worth that to me anyway. It looked good beyond that. What speaker is best depends on the rest of your setup. Personally I would buy the cheaper and replace with Infinity Kappas (have a set of 6x9's in my Caprice on a 200watt amp and they pound harder than most cheap subs!)

I made my own, and like them. Probably not the optimal location for speakers, but can't beat a premade speaker box(vent housing)
It beats having them in the doors-which every set of doors I ever get has been hacked- and looks like someone used a chainsaw to do it! LOL

I believe you can get the panels without the speakers from a place called Q-Logic. They make most of them that everyone sells.

I am a Memphis Audio fan, but agree- those Infinity speakers do pack a lot of punch!
Pioneer used to be top shelf, but I think they have sure cheapened up over the years. I guess I base that on being the premier sound equipment of Wal-Mart.

I agree with Tincan make your own. I made my own out of fiberglass as well and have infinity 5" components in them. Then have two 3.5" speakers in the orginal speaker location. They sound great but is lacking enought bass imo

Are the LMC speakerless kick panels the same shape and depth as the ones with speakers?

Cause if so, I like the cheaper speakerless panels better and would cut em an add speakers of my own choice.

Been lookin at em but didn't buy yet cause I weren't sure if the speakerless ones were deep enough.

I bought the lmc ones for my 63. They were great quality and the speakers were the pioneer ones . Sounded real good. Did not interfear with the vents

I am sure LMC has some cheaper, but I don't shop there.

I eliminated the vents on the '65 ( I am adding under dash air) and used them as the speaker enclosure-just making a flat cover with the speaker mounted into it. I didn't want my speakers mounted as low as these pre-made ones where they'd get hit.

Any body know if the LMC speakerless kick panels are the same depth as the ones with speakers?

They are about 1/4" due to the thickness of the material.

Okay....but are they the same depth.

i.e. do the speakerless panels stand out from the steel the same distance as the speakered ones? Room behind the speakerless ones for the speaker w/o having to punch holes in the steel or is that depth only available in a differently shaped (speaker pre installed) panel?

On any that I have seen, yes the speaker portion is raised, so you do not need to cut the sheet metal of the truck.

if your talking about the plastic speakerless kick panels from lmc they are essentially flat. no raised area for speakers

Thanks. That's it. The pics don't show em well. Might punch the doors might not. Still debatin. Some surface mounts might be nice too but I was hopin on the kick panels. But the more I look em over on the web and installed in trucks the more they look kinda 80s cheesy hotrodish.....Dunno, I'll have to keep thinkin.

its a shame to whack holes in a good solid door, and the speakers usually get kicked when you or a passenger get out.

Yep, but its also a shame to have a cheesy lookin mess inside the cab and the more I look at installed kick panel speakers the more I think Cheeze Wiz......not good. One is as bad as the other and given somma the door decoration treatments I've seen, a well done speaker hole is not shamefull by a long shot!

And they'll likely get kicked a lot in kick panels + tie up the high/low beam for relocation, etc, etc.

Besides, when I'm dead and the next guy gets it he'll whiniecraptalk cause it wasn't gettoed out on mongo blinding spinner wheels or cause I used an inexpensive tach or because the driveshaft and tranny ain't original or the window felts were lmc and the rubber gaskets were lynn steel....

But its for sure I won't be round to care! HA!

I think I can squeak em in nice and professional like.

I am debating also on what to do. I think I will put them in the doors. It is a lot of work tho. I am getting lazy in my old age.

Its decided for me. Doors. Pioneer 6x9. Gotta find foam cups to keep the water off but that's the deal. Its looking like a kenwood underdash cd radio with the dumbstick port and auxilery port for my kindle.

Kick pods set ups are great......
Here is what i did when I did my 58
I put a 6" a 4 " and a tweeter on each side in the pod angled up and across from passenger head to drivers head. So the drivers pod aims towards where the passenger head would be and the passenger pod aims up towards the drivers head .Don't aim the sound from drivers kick to passenger kick straight across. Wire in cross overs.....Then behind the seat i stuffed 2 -12" subs....and it rocks out large. I am running mostly kenwood stuff I like it and it's a great bang for the buck. There are a few good threads on building pods on here and i can't remember if on my thread on the 58 if i showed enough of it. I am not quite ready for that in me SBFS yet but will atempt to show more of that this go around....good luck

Yep. Had same years back on a 37 dodge and 48 dodge and valiants and a 88 truck. Never cut holes in em though....they sound fine as is. As long as I can hear it I'm happy....could give a crap about bolt loosening base like the youngins like.....poor bass turds can't hear the lyrics/even know what the song is bout cause the truck is loosing parts clanging on the road cause o all the shakein.
