Re: 5.3 swap info please
I'll move this to the Engine and Drivetrain forum to get some specialized help. Here is a LINK of several threads on 5.3 swaps. I'm sure some of our seasoned 5.3 swap members will be along shortly. Good luck!

Re: 5.3 swap info please
Some patience....
Some reading material. and $$$$$$ I'd suggest you venture into the LSx swaps area on the engine forum and read through the "what did it cost you" thread and look at some of the build/price sheets specific to your model. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=473560 In short: You'll need alot of stuff.

Re: 5.3 swap info please
just a guess but you will need a gas pedal, fuel pump ( internal/external) harness mods, etc, etc.
I suggest you give a holler to John at Speartech performance, he can give you a run down of what you will need to pick up for that motor\trans combo. http://www.speartech.com/

Re: 5.3 swap info please
That budget will be pushing it. I'd bet a good amount that you will spend more than 3500 on the swap. Not saying it can't be done, but while you have it apart it will be very hard not to do a few upgrades while you are in there.

Re: 5.3 swap info please
JY pullout swaps can be done for under 3500, for a more or less stock setup, if you do your planning and don't re-do things out of error or necessity. HOWEVER, if 3500 is ALL you have (and I mean, if you aren't prepared to find another 1000 in misc should it be needed) then 1 of 2 things happens.
1. your truck sits unfinished, frustrates you and takes up time/space/money doing nothing. By the time you finish the build, you hate the truck or have to sell it. 2. You finish the build but are too broke to afford gas or insurance, and being in CA that can cost A LOT. That being said, if 3500 is a reasonable established budget for you, and your comfortable fielding the extras if needed, then yea I think you can accomplish it just fine.

Re: 5.3 swap info please
69rumbler,
I am a computer tech. If I can do it, anyone can! I did mine in my carport, evenings and every other weekend completely by myself other than maybe twice where I needed help lining something up and my 70 year old dad helped. If you have the space to do it, I encourage you do it. $5k is a lot, I did my 4.8/4l60e for roughly $3k only because i bought stuff I didnt need ( this was in 2009). I encourage you to do the swap, put the motor and trans in, send the harness and PCM off and hook up the fuel system. I support you with whatever decision you make but just wanted to put my .02 in. Good luck!

Re: 5.3 swap info please
4.8/5.3 is cheaper than 6.0 to be sure. And DEFINITELY get a harness and pcm, and other accessories with it. They are not cheap separate.
