Re: Low mile 68 c10 TN Craigslist find (not mine)

The seller is supposed to be calling me back this evening to chat about it. Now I just hope my house closing finalizes sooner than later so I can drop some cash (assuming it is anywhere as nice as it appears)!

Ask how many miles it had on it when he got it,before he drove it daily, took it to Florida, and decided to sell for 1/2 of what he has into it

That truck for that price is approaching the "too good to be true" category.

Hope it is what it seems to be and someone gets them a real nice ride for a real good price.

Ya, it'll be interesting at least to see how it looks in the new pictures he's supposed to send. It's about a six hour drive from me or I'd just run down tomorrow and check it out. He seems like a pretty upfront guy on the phone, or at least he wasn't an OBVIOUS weirdo. I figure if somebody on here sees it and beats me to it, at least it'd go to a good home. Unfortunately I'm stuck crossing my fingers for my house sale to fund before it's gone. There's always the next deal if you miss the one in front of you! If there's any members close by and wants to check it out in person, that'd be great too...

I noticed that too, like maybe it has a ding or crease toward the rear of the rocker? He specifically listed all of the usual 67-72 rust spots in indicating that there's zero rust (rockers, cab corners, kick panels, cab supports, firewall, drip rails, etc...) so maybe it's a dent? He said He had the Chevy dealer go through and service everything and rebuild the quadrajet carb. Also replaced the marker lights and windshield with ones from LMC. It has the original seat, but he said there are "some tears" so he put a seat cover over it. He's supposed to send a SPID picture, so I'll upload and share it as well if I get it.

Nope... It's a cell number, but that's all I know. I'd have never known the difference though. To be fair, I've had the same Idaho cell number for about 10 years even though I live in Kentucky now and lived in Oregon for 7 years before moving here.

I think it's worth $4,000 unless a whole lot worse than what we can see. I only commented on his claims. And,weirdos are obvious. Slick salesmen, not so much. They know what to say to make you feel comfortable...just sayin'. What I see is the cab corner rolled out past the rocker and the front corner of the door rolled in.

I appreciate everybody's "second set of eyes" looking for discrepancies with me. I've certainly run into a few slick salesmen over the years as well. I only meant that he at least passed test number one in that I wasn't immediately turned off the whole thing after talking to him.

My weakness has always been clueless but nice people that have no idea what they have or where to look for problems on their rigs. I sold my black K20 Cheyenne at a pretty good loss because the more I dug the more rust reared it's ugly head. I knew it was worse than I anticipated in talking to the seller when I first saw it, but he'd drove it two hours with his very pregnant wife to meet me with it. He was just a nice guy with a very sweet wife who had paid way too much for it when he bought it. I let my own big ideas for the truck and my self imposed guilt for them going out of their way to drive and meet me cloud my better judgement on that one....

That said, I've scored a few screaming deals, and the guy I bought my first truck from (the 72 k10 Super) offered to trailer it 6 hours across Oregon to my doorstep. He also unexpectedly handed me two $100 bills because of the peeling clear coat on the hood that he hadn't remembered to tell me about (before I'd even noticed the clear coat issue myself). You run into all kinds doing what we do for fun, but I try to maintain cautious optimism that every call could be one of the good ones!

Re: Low mile 68 c10 TN Craigslist find (not mine)

Agree with the others saying it's fishy. Why would you put $8K into it and only try to get $4k for it? I know you can't recoup everything all of the time but why not try to get $6K? Also, 35,000 original miles just seems too good to be true.

I'd be very leery of this one.

Definitely looks like a nice truck. My initial concern would be how to have 34K miles and be a daily driver and go to Florida much?

Not sure. I got the impression that he works out of town a lot and he has only owned it since buying from the original owners grandson back in June. Said his wife can't really drive it with the manual steering so he's just looking for something she can drive. I'm not ruling out the distinct possibility that the odometer is rolled over either. As for Florida, I think that was a single road trip, not a commute...

It looks like a nice truck and by appearances...and I say that carefully....it would probably be worth the $4000.
That said, I usually dismiss any amount of money stated that someone says they have invested in their ride. You have no idea what they spent it on and how they interpret spending or investing in the first place. ie: their labor? chrome plated bolts? $2500 sound system? $650 aftermarket steering wheel...who knows.
I also agree about the dubious 34000 mile angle.....not so sure about that....so unless there is a true easy to read, easy to follow paper and history trail, dismiss that as correct.
Back to the point....it looks like a pretty reasonable truck for $4000, well worth looking at.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Agreed wholeheartedly on all points. Everybody puts way more into an old truck than they'll get back out of it. Hell, that "$8000" may include $2000 for shipping for all I know. I'm just looking at it as a clean truck (hopefully) with little to no rust repair needed (again, hopefully). I don't really care if it has 35k, 135k, or even 235k if it's a solid , reliable truck. For $4000, you really can't ask for much more than that in this neck of the woods from what I've found so far. I looked at a $3500 72 lwb c10 in Bowling Green a couple days ago (on one of those shady 'buy here / pay here' used car lots) that looked really slick from ten feet, but it had so much rust that had been hidden and covered up with metal tape and spray paint that there's no way I'd want to buy it. If this one doesn't have rust, but has had decent repairs done, that's fine too. That much less for me to have to mess with! It wouldn't be that crazy rare low-mile find, but in the end that doesn't really mean much more than having a couple more "cool" points as far as I'm concerned. If I did buy it, I'd do a power steering and brake upgrade and enjoy it while I own it, and find a good home that would appreciate it if I ever parted with it.

What is this "metal tape" you refer to, I've never heard of it before? I am assuming it so the magnet wont find the bondo.
