Project 68 C10 please read

Ok, i've been on this board for about a year now, and i picked up my grandfathers truck, which we are going to restore, but i took some pics today to get some feedback please let me know what you think,

the first picture was back in 1994 when the truck last ran.

looks as the cab corners would have to be fixed, not sure about the rockers..

I think there is more damage inside than your thinking, look at the seams, there is rust between the cab corners and rockers, even in the front of the driverside looks to have rust.

Whats with the crack in the cab corner? is it full of bondo?

Better off not trying to short cut it and having to do it allover again down the road. Usually with these old trucks there is way more rust than meets the eye..

You have to remove the rocker to do the cab corner if i'm not mistaken ( i'm not a body man but learning )

a project that you have to try to save. do not be in a rush to get it running. maybe enough to crank the motor over and check compression to see if it needs a rebuild. pull motor, and everything that you can from cab. then have cab and fenders sand blasted, and immediately take some photos. then have shop shoot it with etching primer. do not wait long between sand blasting and primer. then you will know where you stand with body work needed. go forward from there.

I agree with cool68...don't worry about the body, get the running gear in shape.

I've been running a "rotten body" truck for 20 years and it's my DD. If it doesn't actually fall off, it's the last of my worries. I still love her.

When I got mine, I had to borrow a motor...for over 10 years!
Parted trucks for a decade to add parts...doesn't happen overnight unless you
can buy all that's needed.

BTW---mines safe, new 6 yo motor, disc brakes, good cooling, nice glass, good tires, tilt, heater works, comfy...

Fuel system. Brake system. Get the truck running, sort the mechanicals. Tackle the body and paint later. It is a cool beater right now.

Judging by what I see and by past experience, you will have a lot of rust issues, I'm betting you will need to rework the lower part of the truck all the way around, including door bottoms.
It will be expensive and time consuming,, but, because of your trucks history it is definitely worth saving. I would a lot rather tell everyone ,,, I saved my grandfathers truck. Than tell them,, I scrapped grandfathers truck!! Good luck with her and have fun.

I will chime in here and I am a professional JACK ! LOL jack of all trades and master of none ! but seriously I have done all the work you are about to do many times and im gonna take a good guess at what you need , at least what I would do to it if it was mine , you will need
#1 left and right inner & outer rocker panels
#2 probly all 4 cab supports and new cab support bushings and bolts
#3 new cab corners
#4 probly outer floor pans ? id say its rusted several inches in past the rockers
#5 for the doors those are just flat (ALMOST) so id just clean them down and weld in metal
I could fix the cab of that truck in about 3 weeks working on it in the evenings good luck with it ! my dad bought a brand new 1969 SWB stepside and if I had it right now the condition of it would make NO difference to me NONE ! I would fix it back like new if it was eat up to the door handles !
