Re: Early style tach cluster
Still have this? And will it work in a '79 that didn't originally come with the tach option?

Re: Early style tach cluster
Hey partner, thanks for the interest. That cluster is gone but I do have another one just like it. With wire harness. I think it's a direct fit if you have mechanical oil pressure gauge in your 79. $180 includes shipping. Thanks again, Jody

Re: Early style tach cluster
That sounds great! I have an electronic oil pressure gauge but would rather have a mechanical. Do you have any pictures? Also, off topic, do you happen to have any gauge/dash bezels for a '79?

Re: Early style tach cluster
That's a 73-75 cluster (the amp gauge gives it away). If you try plugging an amp gauge setup into your volt gauge setup, you'll wind up with crispy wiring.

Re: Early style tach cluster
Just an FYI, the early clusters (73 - 75) used an ammeter so they won't be a direct plug-in swap into a 76 or newer truck.
It'll still fit but you'll have to either (A) modify the truck's wiring to work with the ammeter, or (B) modify the cluster to accept a 76-up voltmeter. Modifying the cluster to accept a voltmeter will likely be the easiest. Also be aware that GM made some significant changes to the cluster plug pin-out in 78. So you'll have to re-arrange some wires on that plug to make everything match up. |
