Does anybody know what this is?

I am replacing the tail shaft seals and bushing and this thing keep getting in my way. It doesn't appear to be doing anything. Does anybody know what it is? Should it be doing something or can I just get rid of it?

Sorry brother, but I dont have that. So what I would do is take it off and just hold onto it. Then if you find a use for it then just reinstall it.

Re: Does anybody know what this is?

Your parking brake cable should pass through that. At least on the TH400 trucks. Not sure if trucks with other transmissions had it. Some trucks had 2. My 69 came with only one in the center. It should be mounted with the loop up according to my pictures. Here's the pic I took during disassembly.

Strange indeed as I have an original TH350 and didn't have that.

I think FirstOwner69 is correct. Only trucks with the TH400 automatic trans had them. The top X member is a 350 and the bottom one is a 400.

Re: Does anybody know what this is?

Someone added that. Notice the bolt holding it in isnt an original bolt? Plus, the 5 of these trucks Ive owned never had one of those. Id take it off and toss it in the "bin of stuff I dont need but Ill hang on to anyway".

Re: Does anybody know what this is?

Since my truck is snow covered I won't go look. But from your pic it looks like a speedo cable router to keep it close to the frame.
