Is this metal shield common to K5's? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been meaning to ask about what looks to be a metal heat shield on my K5 that's affixed to the floor pan and is between the exhaust pipe and a Hickey gas tank on the driver side just posterior from the rear axle. I don't recall anything similar on my 71 Blazer but I owned that a long time ago. Anyone else have this "shield". It's not a remnant piece of the gas tank skid plate as far as I can tell.

If its in the rear at the end of the quarter panel I believe mine has it. Looks like it keeps the fuel tank breather lines from getting hit by thrown debris from the tires.

Finally got to look at mine. So it appears from your pics to be mounted on the inside of the frame. Mine has two brackets in that area with bolts coming through from the inside spare tire mount. No sign of any heat shield on mine. Is the shield on yours welded to the floor pan?

Thanks for looking. I'm not sure but believe this is bolted in place rather than welded. Am curious if it's a GM piece or came with the aftermarket Hickey tank. This is just behind the rear axle and should be forward of the spare tire mount

GM offered a one year only auxiliary gas tank option mounted in the rear K5 style for pickups in 1970. Can't recall those that I've seen (pics of anyway) having a similar guard.

Whatever it is I've got to yank it and paint it

Thrush Headers with flowmaster 40 duels. 4speed sm465 manual. 4 wheel disk brakes with Inboarded rear shock prerunner style mounts and shocks.
