Speed warning adjustor cable

Hey guys a couple weeks ago I tried to find an adjustor cable so I decided to make my own. I was just gauging interest if people would buy these if I were to produce a few more of them?

Just remember, you have to be a Premium member to be able to sell stuff on the board. If you go to the menu bar above and click on "Subscribe" it will show you the different membership levels.

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

I understand I have to be a premium member I'm just trying to see if there is an interest in these things. I'm also looking at making the drive gear and collar that the cable sits in when inserted into the speedo

Hi Bryce, on finding an original cable a couple weeks back, you must have never tried getting in touch with the right speed warning parts contact. We currently have five complete s/w clusters and probably enough s/w parts/componets on hand to build at least five more, no joke. What is your end cost going to be and I am interested in seeing/looking at what you came up with on the needle adjustment cable, where are your pictures at? Mel

If I remember right you bought some of those clusters from GMC Paul a while back - specifically there was one that had a fawn bezel...if you're planning on selling any of that stuff I'd be interested in the fawn bezel cluster....

I should add that if you are interested then let's move this discussion to the For Sale board.

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

Is the cable built from completely aftermarket parts or did you use any OE parts. These cables are currently being mass produced in the aftermarket field by OER for Camaro, Nova, Chevelle and Impala which used the same length cable. I have restored a lot of these clusters and know that the Camaro style cable is to long and if my memory serves me well they are between 11-12" in length. The reason why you do not want to use the Camaro style cable is it is to long and puts a bind on the drive gear because it gets a twist in it. My point is I would be careful investing to much money in trying to produce a bunch of these things because it is a matter of time before some multi million dollar company like OER gets wind that 67-69 trucks used a shorter cable and there is money out there to be made they will be producing these cables by the thousands for a fraction of the cost of what you can make them for. Here is a link http://www.jegs.com/i/OER/691/6454841/10002/-1

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

PT the cable is completely aftermarket and it is the exact length of the truck cables and I talked to Gary Terry aka Cheyenne Superman and this is how he told me to build it and this is how he built them when he did a speed warning dash that he did not have a factory cable for. I was just thinking of offering these for the board for members who cannot locate the original and do not want to spend a long time trying to locate one

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

I understand completely, I just wanted you to be aware that there are Camaro, Impala ect. cables out there and it is a matter of time before someone starts mass reproducing them. I found the screws by the way for your gauge face plate and just sent you a pm.

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

The Camaro cable will not bind if you mount it a little further away from the general "stock" location on the dash. This compensates for the added length of the cable.

Re: Speed warning adjustor cable

Yeah these cables are shortened to the original length I figured since I found a way to make them the correct length I could offer them to the board members here
