Does anybody have pictures of their T5 shifter location in an AD truck?

S-10 style or Camaro style?
I went out and looked at the S-10 T5 I have stashed for my flathead powered Model A and the shift tower is centered right at 12 inches from the front mounting surface of the trans if that helps give you some indication of where it would set.

Some guys swap the S-10 shift tower over to the later Camaro T-5 to get the world class T 5 with bearings in certain spots rather than bushings among other differences. With a flathead under 150 hp that isn't a real issue with me. I am thinking about putting a five speed with overdrive in the 48 but am looking at later full size truck transmissions. I just haven't put my buddy to hunting one yet.

Here is where mine is lining up. Now it's not an s10 shifter. it's the astro shifter. which means the shifter is 2.5 inches farther back then the s10.

That is still a comfortable ways in front of the seat Mechanixman where the Camaro/ FB trans puts it right back at the end of the tail shaft.

I've been doing some research on the AX15 and AR5 transmissions. Front what I've been told, the shifter are slightly behind the S10 T5 shifter location. I haven't been able to confirm that yet. That's why I wanted to see the T5 location. They aren't clear to the back, like the Camaro and Mustangs. So, they might just work.
To me it looks like it would be a pretty good swap. They're a little more robust than the S10 T5. They have either a .76 or .73 overdrive and a 3.70 1st. They're found behind 2wd Jeeps and Colorado/Canyons. They seem like a good alternative. That is is with the 350.
Yeah mr. 48chev, I was originally concerned with getting the s10 shifter, but I have plenty of room to get a foot across so someone may sit in the middle. I was looking at the nv4500 before. It also seems also like a hefty ttansmission. Also being a toploader means the shifter will be farther forward than usual, and they made them for chevys, so no need for the adapter. In the end it came down to cash. I found one in central illinois for $400, or I trade a 350 block I had for t5. |

I've also been looking at a Vortec 4200 with teh Colorada AR5 trans. It would be kind of cool.

I'll have to look into the AX15 and AR5 transmissions but around here the large percentage of trucks you would find one in are 4x4 rather than 2x4 because of the high demand for 4x4 trucks.
My shifter is right up against the seat now with the three speed and floor shift but I'd actually like it further forward. The main thing is that with the 292 and 3.7 rear axle I need an overdrive if I do even half of the cross country long distance trips I have planned.

Agreed, there's pobably 10:1 ratio of 4WD to 2WD trannies out there. I'm sure most 2 wheelers opt for the automatic anyhow.
I saw a picture to other day of the T5 Ford put in the 4.0 mustangs. The shifter is rod actuated from inside the car. To me it looks like it could be modified to use a standard shifter though. |

I have a 292 with a T5 setup in my '49 Chevy running the stock bench. What photos are you looking for specifically? My T5 setup is like mr48chev had mentioned - Running a Camaro gearbox with a S10 tailshaft for the shifter location.
