Steering Boxes ?
Looking for advice on what type of steering box to get for a 4X4 that is going to see litle or no off-road driving. Variable or Quick ? And what is the difference between them.
I want the truck to handle and steer well on the road & high way ! Gary

Re: Steering Boxes ?
Late 70's box say 77ish is when they went to the different box[I think]. Now in the 80's the fittings are of the metric type and require an adapter or new lines but neither are a big deal. The very best probably would be look for a box out of a 87 4X4 truck and get the newer type lines to install on your truck. That leaves the question if you have new style ends on one end what to do with the pump end? well the big nut looking thing in the back of the pump is where the pressure regulator is housed. The threads are all the same on them simply unscrew the older one and install the newer one. Or take this time as a perfect opportunity to make another upgrade and change over to a serpentine belt set up and the port in the back of the pump would be right for the box. Keep in mind while changing you do need a 4X4 box if your truck is a 4X4 because the boxes are different for the 2 wd and 4 wd drive trucks. Jim

Re: Steering Boxes ?
Thanks Hugger,
I am going with a serpantine set-up and the pump was next on the list to address.. Have you used either the newer quick or variable ratio boxes yourself ? If so which one and how did you like it ? Thanks Gary !
