Multi carb set ups?
Anybody using multi carb setups? Six deuces, or 4,2 fours, six pack, multi one barrels. I might be looking for a new carb setup but I have a 350 and I'm not seeing any( six deuce) that is. That is what I really want, wanted them since I was little kid, if any one knows if they are made, or someone has one let me know, and I've got a junk hood.... So I'm thinking velocity stacks....

I'd really like 3-2's. Don't know why. But not enough to pay two hundred times what they're worth for the set up.

Re: Multi carb set ups?
They're worth more than $10... 200 times is quite the exaggeration They're worth more than $100 and I haven't seen a setup cost $20,000
I've got a freshly rebuilt tripower (Pontiac's 3-2 bbl setup) on my 65 GTO as of last weekend. It's awesome! I'm sure you can find a setup somewhere. Holley remakes the 3-2's for the mopar six-pack setup. I know speedway motors sells 3 and 6 carb kits for all kinds of engines. I think they might be a stromberg type carb though. Not sure what exactly you're looking for. Inglese makes the 8 stack fuel injection now too. They're out there, you just need to look. The hard part might be finding the intake. Good luck!

Re: Multi carb set ups?
I installed a 3x2 setup on a small block Chevy using Speedway Motors' 9Super7 carbs. Still works great, no hesitation, etc. Used an Edelbrock intake. All new, over the counter stuff. Of course you could go with vintage parts as well but like other have said, it can get pricey.
http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t...otors_9super7/ I also had a 4x2 setup on an early Hemi a few years back. Sold it for $2500, intake and carbs, just to give you an idea how much $$$ these setups can go for. |

Re: Multi carb set ups?
This has come up before it seems. I posted a pic of the 2x4 tunnel ram setup in my 57 (from high school) and made the statement that it really wasn't streetable and proceeded to get pounced on by all those that could tune a dual quad setup to make it perfect. I'll stand by what I said earlier, a no-kidding tunnel ram with 2x600's isn't nearly as streetable as a single 4-bbl.
Having said that, there are plenty of very streetable 2x4 setups nowadays, all low-rise manifolds. 2x3 setups are even a bit more streetable/tuneable because they can run off the single 2 bbl and bring the other carbs in later with progressive linkage. Anyway, my 2 cents only. The bottom line is don't get too crazy with the setup and it can work great and look cool in the process. i.e. Not like the pics below... Oh, and you don't want to hear this, but I paid $100 for the polished tunnel ram and $94 for each Holley - and had to save for a long time to do it. Now I'm REALLY dating myself. |

Re: Multi carb set ups?
You're right Jocko!!
They look good but you're always tuning. The one I put together ultimately ran best when I pulled it off and put it on the shelf. But I got you beat on the cost. My intake and carbs were free. Buddy gave them to me. A polished intake and a big box of carter afb's. I made a pair of matched carbs and ran them for a year. Gave him the set up back for his boy to run on his 62 chevy sb stepside. Looked impressive but always tuning. But to anybody wanting the multi carb look, I say do it. You'll learn a lot getting it right. It's good experience. |

Re: Multi carb set ups?
This is the setup on my 56 pickup. I rebuilt 3 old 2G carbs & used a speedway kit & Edelbrock manifold. It runs great. I built another one & sold it. I have less then $1000 in each one not counting my labor.

Re: Multi carb set ups?
Here is another 6x2 setup on Ebay. It is a little more expensive than the one listed above.

Re: Multi carb set ups?
Don't have pics of it loaded in the 'puter right now but I have a '57 Chevy 2dr. sedan I used to 1/4 mile. Currently running a stock '57 GM aluminum dual-four intake (cast # 3739563 ) with Carter WCFB 4 barrel carbs and re-pop '57 dual-four progressive linkage bought from Classic Chevy before Ecklers absorbed them thru a buy-out. Setting on a '64 Chevelle 283, slight over bore of .030 to clean up the walls, flat top pistons with a Melling "Super Street" rough idle cam and hydraulic lifters. When warmed up and all the planets are in line idles at about 700-725 rpm. Runs great with a Muncie M21 4 speed, Mr. Gasket shifter. Nearly an identical stock set-up which was orginally available from the General in '57 and really looks wicked when you pop the hood. Have about $700 in it and see that same set-up at swap meets in the $1800 to $2000 range.
Sorry for the long explanation but really do like the look and the performace. The WCFB carbs are in the 450cfm range each so they total to about 900 cfm but the second carb does not come on line until you really mash the go-pedal good and the revs are building.
