CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

Picked up a 68 GMC Suburban. Looking to lower with air ride and was looking for some opinions. Here is my thoughts.

Currently running 29" tires on 15" wheels. For the rear going to C-notch, change trailing arm crossmember, install upper shock mount bar, adjustable track bar, bags mounted to trailing arms, and maybe a 1 or 2" block, keeping stock trailing arms for now. (on budget for this year)

So... I can get the rear done with CPP stuff for quite a bit less than the Porterbuilt parts. Is there that much of a difference? I realize the PB notch looks like a better unit than the CPP but if I go CPP notch I was planning on reinforcing it some, body is off the frame right now so plenty of access to do what ever.

Thanks in advance for any opinions / advice

Porterbuilt builds the best bolt-in c-notch in my opinion.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

There are 17 Grade 8 bolts in the PB CNotch, upper / lower. I'd go with Porterbuilt.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

OK, I do like the construction of the PB notch, prob will go with that

What about the other components? CPP or PB front crossmember, shock mount, track bar? Trying to get it down and on the road without breaking the bank

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

I have an extra PB upper and lower shock bar but I'm not sure if they are the same for the Burb as for the trucks (?) I'm thinking they'd be the same but I'm not sure. The lower shock bar is for use with Porterbult Trailing arms. I'd make you a deal on them if you're trying to put things together a piece-at-a-time.

The lower shock bar with stock trailing arms is different than with PB trailing arms.

I know very little about the Burb .. just saying, I'll have these for sale in the parts section soon.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

Just keep in mind that the Porterbuilt C-notch has fasteners on the top of the frame rail, these will be tough or nearly impossible to get to with the rear floor in. Having said that, I think that Porterbuilt will be the highest quality pieces you can get...period!

I'd probably swap a couple for that cream puff if it's as clean as it looks.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

Thanks guys! Inside is black with red door panels. Going Porterbuilt for rear suspension. Just a little confused why "others" push the trailing arm crossmembers so much. Talked to Dave at PB and he said I can run the stock unit. I realize the stock unit hangs lower than the frame but what about geometery changes after going down 6+ inches?

PB told me I would have to have modify my 2 pc driveshaft to use their crossmember, so if I go that route Im going to wait till I decide if a 5.3 swap is in order.

Also as mentioned above, PB notch would require floor removal but already have body off the frame for a little clean up at the same time.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

The reason everyone pushes the PB trailing arm crossmember is it allows you to adjust your trailing arm angle and run the exhaust up thru the crossmember and between the frame rails.

Re: CPP or Porterbult opinions air ride

I looks like everyone has the correct answer and none have mentioned the most common reason. Look at all the complaints about products and customer service about CPP over the years. The internet if full of bad CPP press. I would use anything but them. I will have to admit I have never had any personal dealing with them (for that very reason)but one of the Rottenwood Garage members did buy a disc brake drop kit from them that we had to grind on to make it work.

Porterbult all the way!

If you do decide to go with PB stuff, give Travis a shout at Pro Performance. He is a forum member and keeps PB in stock. Cool guy too and he'll work with you.
