Re: Cam sellection help !

If you have a preference for a particular manufacturer, they will help you out. Most of them have a form you can fill out online that asks all of the specs for your vehicle and engine. You submit the form and 24hrs later or so they will send you an email with their recommendations. The guys that answer those things are very knowledgeable and will help you out a lot. Most all of the manufacturers have a phone tech line that you can call that will also help you. Try the online form thing first, it is really helpful. You will need to know what type of cam you want (hydraulic, solid, roller), your compression, carb, intake type, the cc of your heads, a guess on the weight of your truck, the tranny you use and the rear gears (may be more, that's just what I remember). There is an area to put in comments, just tell them what you are trying to achieve (horsepower, street driver, street/strip, towing, etc.) I personally like Lunati and Crane, but that's just personal preference. You can also call Summit or Jegs, they are also usually very knowledgeable and helpful.

Re: Cam sellection help !

Check this software out....Desktop Dyno. Tends to be a little optimistic from what I read, but it's a great way to compare motor changes. Remember, the info you get out of it is only as good as the info you put in. I did quite a few comparisons before I picked my cam. Click below to download.

Re: Cam sellection help !

If you don't want to wait on them to get back to you 1-800-cam- help. That is comp cams choice line. I am a little spoiled I just was within 3 blocks of Comp yesterday and only a few miles from Lunati. Both are in Memphis Tn, I carried my wife to the DR. When I was big into the drag racing I would go over there and get stuff all the time as well as TCI in Ashland MS for converters and trans stuff. It is great when you can take them a converter and tell them what is going on and then they go in the back cut it open change the stall and weld it back up and hand it back to you and your on the way home.

Re: Cam sellection help !

Comp Cams has an online form you fill out and it will recommend a cam for you on the spot. Or you can send it in for them to answer.
