C20 & C30(SRW) factory 8 lug Kelsey Hayes steelies ?
Can any ya'll 3/4 and 1 ton'rs tell me the difference b/n these factory Chevy 8 lug steel wheels ? One is 70's C20/C30 and the other is 90's G30 van. I thought they used the same wheel - does the van have a different offset ?

While on the topic, how were the 89-93 Dodge 8 lug steelies different ? they sure look identical to the GMs - different hub/pilot hole dimension or were those 16x6" only ? As far as I can tell those 2 wheels look alike. you can always ask them to measure the offset.
The Dodges have the same bolt pattern, I think the only difference is they might have 3 nubs for the hubcaps versus 4 for the GM and F#rd. Just out of curiosity, do you already have a few 16 x 6.5s and that's why you don't want the F#rds??

Yeah, I want to match up and run a correct set of the genuine KH 16 x 6.5" GM steels and OEM 3/4 ton caps on a truck with LT255/75 or 265/75, and then keep a spare set of same rims on the shelf in case of bent rims etc. I know the Ford Accurides are considered a little better quility and I like their extra 1/2" width, but I really prefer hub centric wheels, over lug centric. In my years experience, hub centric wheels balance out better with less wheel weights and cause less problems when rotating them. |

...here's Dodge's version of the 8 lug 16x6.5" steely. I guess its application was actually mid-90's 1 ton vans. Ill have to see if I can dig up it's hub hole diameter and offset in the specs. GM's 8 lug 16x6.5" hub hole is 4 9/16" diameter;

* Dodge 90's 1 ton van 16x6.5" steelies have a 121.3mm hub center diameter. * GM 90's G30 1 ton van 16x6.5" steelies have a 116.7mm hub center diameter. * GM 70's/80's C20/C30/K20/K30 16x6.5" steelies have 116.7mm hub center diameter. Got a question for any ya'll Hollander experts. Seems at some point over the past 20+ years, Hollander changed their assigned interchange number for the 1974-87 16x6.5, 8 lug steel wheels from 560-1055 ~to~ 560-8009 (A or B). Anyone know when and why they would've done that ? Nothing appears to have changed - same interchange models & years. I was also reminded the 8 lug 16" wheel was only 6" wide through 1973, then grew to 6.5" wide in 74.
For the novices, the Hollander Interchange guide is the "Junkyard bible" that every dismantling yard across the nation (possibly world ?) uses to identify and market specific auto parts for identification and resale. |
