Truck is done
My 1965 C10 is finished ground up 8 months start to finish. I want to thank every one on the board. I learned so many things that saved me time and money. Now my only problem with the truck is gas mileage. I have a rebuilt 74 350 with a quadrajet carb 450/224-110 cam and a 700r4 trans. On my second tank of gas I got 6 mpg will this get better as the engine breaks in or do I change carbs and/or rear end gears

Re: Truck is done
That is really low mileage. I have a 383 stroker in my Caprice with a 750 holley and TH350 that gets 7-8mpg with a 3.42 rearend. You should be getting over 10 at least. What is your rear gear? Does it have a high stall converter?
The Truck looks awesome by the way. Bret

Re: Truck is done
Thank you, The rear end was on the truck when I bought it> I think it is out of an 89 pickup and the gears are 4.10 and I think the stall converter is 2500 rpm

Re: Truck is done
Truck looks great. Mileage is low, even with the 4.10s. Lock up converter? Is it going into OD? Carb tuned correctly?

Re: Truck is done
Check what RPM's your truck is at when your at 60 MPH...If you RPM's are high then that should explain the low mileage...you might also consider re-tuning the carb...That 350 should get at least 9-11 miles per gallon with a good quadrajet carb. Nice truck and great job!

Re: Truck is done
Very nice truck, didn't think gray could look that good.
For better fuel mileage, 3:42 rear, loose the stall converter and the Quadrajet, I have good luck with Edelbrock carbs. I have a 283/700r4 and 3:73 gears in my 63 and am getting 16mpg chasing around out in the country but not exceeding 60mph or the mileage drops drastically. My 56 Chevy Belair has a warmed over 305 with an RV cam, aluminum GM intake, Edelbrock, 700r4 and a 3:55 rear end. Running at 70-75 on the freeway I can get 21-22mpg and that is trunk loaded, back seat loaded on a trip with two adults, 20 with the AC on. |

Re: Truck is done
Apparently you weren't fighting the winter like some of us. 8 months would be cool.

Nice looking truck! good luck with gas mileage and with a 700r4 it should be better than that!
