4L60E/LS6 flexplate alignment issue

My swap:
CTS-V LS6 into '82 K10 SWB 4x4 mated to a 4L60E

After debating with myself and brother over this, I decided to pull out the 700R4 and go with the 4L60E. Mind you this is after I had purchased the Advanced Adapters (AA) flexplate and adapter kit (the one used to mate Gen III engines to older GM trans.)

I got a smokin' deal for a 4L60E from a totaled 98 GMC Jimmy for $250 (removable BH), the catch was, I had to remove it. Fast forward to install time...

I removed the AA flexplate and adapter, installed a used flexplate that I was told came from an LS1 F Body. Ok so great, I went ahead and kept the donor transmission's torque converter, keep in mind it came from a 98 GMC Jimmy, a 4.3L V6.

I figured all 3-bolt TQ's should have the same bolt pattern as any 3-bolt flexplate, well I guess I'm wrong because once the trans. and T-case were on the truck, it was a no-go!! The V6 TQ I kept from the 98 GMC Jimmy did not fit the "F-body" flexplate I slapped on there. It appears the bolt pattern did not match up.

Another thing I noticed was the gap between the TQ's snout and crank's ass end take a look below. If you guys are trans. saavy, please chime in guys, I've beat my head over this, please let me know if I screwed by keeping the V6 TQ. Should I go and get a matching TQ/flexplate? ie. 2000's Chevy Silverado TQ/Flexplate combo? Any and all help is welcome!! Thanks.

I think you got screwed by getting a V6 trans in the first place. You need a V8 torque converter, but the problem is, a V8 converter won't fit the input shaft of a V6 trans....

Youre sh%*&ing me right?!!

whats the spline count on an input shaft for V6's 4L60E? and for the V8's?

Re: 4L60E/LS6 flexplate alignment issue

bolt pattern is different, and Case on V6 type is one piece..not 2 piece like on a V8(removable Bell Housing)

v6 trannys have fewer clutch packs in them than the v8's

The differences:
Bellhousing. The only V6 bellhousing that will bolt to a V8 is one on a 4.3 liter transmission
Input shaft.
Pump stator tube.
Torque converter.
2nd servo (sometimes).

torque converter is different. It uses the short hub center Gen I SBC style converter

You can use the 5.3L dished flex plate just need to add the spacer and elongate the torque converter bolt holes some. (although I'm personally not a fan of this)

advanced adapters makes a flexplate/spacer kit for that swap

PS: plan on replacing the 4L60e soon anyways... a stock v-6 TQ converter with a 4.3L 4L60e behind an LS6 will be destorying itself quite soon.

I'd have to disagree with you on the removable BH part, I mean no disrespect whatsoever, afterall its you guys who are helping me. I do have a removable BH 4L60E. I have the dished flexplate I originally intended using with the 700R4, I just have to order that spacer bushing from AA.

If its of any benefit to my frankenstein set up i've got going over here, I still have the 27 spline count 700R4 TQ, what do you guys think? Will it be of any benefit to match that up with this 4L60E?

Sorry I fumbled on my first sentance.. but tried to dumb english correct it later below in the paragraph... only 4L60e WITH removable BH behind any V6 was only the 4.3L V6 4L60e

that being said... a few 4.3L 4L60e's DID have the same 2nd servo and clutch pack as a v8.

*some*

I don't know how to tell you that.(clutch pak/servo PN/s etc) But given a gen I SBC torque converter (4L60e) and vs a 700r4 tq converter.... a wash?

An LS6 with any power adders will eventually eat up ANY 4L60e or 700r4 in time also. (I plan on eventually going thru mine when it explodes)

Breath... it'll be okay.... and no it won't be *too* expen$ive whatever the solution is....

It's all good. Now if only I could get some dough out of those two paper weights I can put it towards a V8 4L60E
